Should have listened to Les. Les said to get the ETEC.

If someone can post the picture from my album to this post please do so. If that can't be done you can go to my album and look at the last picture. In the area of the corrosion there is a brass bushing in a rubber sleeve around the stainless drive shaft surrounded by the aluminum housing. Poor design by Honda. Outboard mechanic says the new part will last another ten years and then fail again. Nothing can be done to solve the problem.

That sure doesn’t look good. What year is this motor. I see in 2018 the larger motors including the BF200 were upgraded for corrosion & other improvements. My just replaced 20 year old Honda 40’s with half their time of 2365 hours in salt water were corrosion free at least on the outside & no indication of it being bad on the inside either.

Can it be welded? Is the part to be replaced important for the operation of the engine?
When I had my 22 cruiser with twin Honda 40s a stick was kicked up by the prop and broke a chunk of the anti cavitation plate. I took the lower unit off and to it to a prop shop and they fixed by welding a new piece. I couldn't tell where the patch began when I got it back. They left it for me to prime and paint.

Looks like a cast part. I assume the innards we see are the drive/prop shaft and brass bushing in the lower part of the crack, which means the shaft spins inside the damage area. Nope.

Nope on the welding (it's already fixed). Even if it could be welded the rubber piece holding the brass bushing would catch on fire. I fished the month of August out of Westport with it in that condition all the while being aware of the problem. Made me very nervous.

The motor is a 2006.
