I need to make a repair to the front center window latch (dog?) on our 2005 22' C-Dory. I think it could be accomplished with the right adhesive. There are some good new glues on the market but it's best to know what you are gluing.

Does anyone here know what the latches from that era were made from?
Thanks.

Assuming that you mean the black nylon cam action handles on the bottom of the forward opening window. I believe these are made by Diamond Sea Glaze.
This link will take you to the parts page for this handle--double check the PDF to be sure the specs are correct.

Although there are some 2 part urethanes, and some epoxies which will "work" on Nylon: You will never get the strength you need back with a glue. I would suggest a new handle.

I should have specified the broken piece is the base of the latch that is bonded to the center window.
I found an interesting product that may help.
https://tbbonding.com/glue-nylon/
If not successful there is another project waiting that could use an advanced bonding agent.

The bad news...my left one recently broke, and I agree no glue could withstand the torque.

The good news...2 new plastic ones are only $85...not including shipping, taxes or customs.

Oddly, the much more complex offset Sea Dog custom adjuster arm is $26. Go figure.

Be sure to talk to the parts tech to make absolutely sure you're ordering the correct part.

Best,
John

Oh! Most excellent!
When you get the time can you share more details about ... well... everything?
Where you got parts, the process, how is fishing down there?
Mmmm, prawns.

Sense I've retired the tinkerer in me has re-awakened. I so want to fix it and the new bonding process is intriguing. They say it takes a month for the bond to reach full strength.
You guys are right of course and Bob's link is the correct assembly.
The sealant between the frame and glass had crept around the edge of the broken part (cam handle pivot) and I assumed it was bonded to the window which was causing me angst. Not the case and I'll start breathing once more. Thanks again.

Hi Chester,
Bob and Brent gave you the main site for Diamond Sea Glaze parts.
Or call Toll Free (North America): 800-770-0455 Ext. 3150 and ask for Clyde Roswell, who was very helpful.

clyde.roswell@advantecglobal.com

or Email E-mail: am.parts@advantecglobal.com

You can buy single cam handles (right or left), or a set including right and left as well as the blocks they lock on to; that’s what I bought under the theory that once older nylon parts like these start failing just replace them together. The complete set is cheaper than ordering two cam handles. The top part of the cam handle has a horizontal part that fits over the window frame upper surface. The black sticky window sealant is not involved. Cut if off with a glass scraper if it bothers you.

If your center window adjusters are getting sticky or hard to tighten down, for $26 each replace them too if over 10 years old. My new ones are rock solid. I’m very happy with this investment.
The C-Dory fasteners are Robertson (square head) machine bolts that have been cut off at thread # 8-15 and fit into holes in the center window frame that are tapped. DON’T LOSE THESE FASTENERS, AND THE TOP AND BOTTOM ONES WILL BE DIFFERENT LENGTHS.

Different subject: I think the large side window closers at $30+ are way over-priced (though I bought two). Try the stainless steel Perko ‘sliding window handle’ made in USA Perko cat # 0954dposts for $10 on Amazon and epoxy it to the glass.

Re fishing, all we know is that fresh Gulf grouper and jumbo Gulf shrimp fresh off the boat are $14 and $10 a pound at Perdido Seafood 6 minutes from our house.

We plan a 6 week adventure starting mid July 2020 trailering the 2,700 miles and exploring the San Juans and Broughtons, so get ready to share your ‘don’t miss this’ list with us.

Tomorrow’s high is only 76 degrees, but we will run the F150’s anyway since Yamaha says to do so every 8 weeks.

Happy window repairs!
John

Good find on the Perko handles--but they don't "lock" as the Diamond Sea Glaze (I agree they are overpriced). C Dorys are fairly easy to break in to, but I don't want to make it any easier. Get one of these $4. suction cups for glass at Harbor Freight, and then move the window back--I think it was Marco who suggested that...(Hopefully the crooks didn't notice).

John, if you don't already have it, Waggoners Cruising Guide for the San Juans ect. is the best one I have seen but then I haven't compared it to anything else for 10 years.
I'm just a bit envious that you have fresh seafood off the boat just minutes from home. Yum.
If I remember I'll call about the parts tomorrow.
Cheers.

Jaxsun Gysbers @advantecglobal.com (1.800.770.0455, ext. 3171) Was able to sell me just the post that broke for $2 each so I ordered two. Shipping will be more but it still beats $65 per kit.
