Where's Your HIN Plaque? Plack, placard, stamp plate OR what ever you call it.
OK, I know the answer, (starboard side, upper corner, outside on the transom), and, if you are lucky, there is another one too.
Recently I have been helping some friends look over a possible new to them 22 Cruiser. There is a second HIN plaque mounted on the forward outside wall of the cabin, centered above the center window, and above and behind the electric horn(s) just under the brow. On my 22, and on this one, the number is stamped into an aluminum flat piece 3 x 1/2 inch and then the aluminum is (sort of) fixed to the gellcoat.
On the one we were looking at, the plaque was attached with something that looked like white boatlife caulk, and only one end was still stuck to the boat. The other end was hanging down where the window, if raised, could have dislodged the plaque. If you were lucky enough to see it fall, and it stuck to the deck, you might still have the plaque.
Also, on the current boat it did look like the numbers were stamped into the gelcoat in that position.
Might be worth checking to see if you have the plaque, or just the stamp, and how secure the plaque is. On mine, the plaque came off with a gentile wipe of a window cleaning rag. It appeard to be attached with something like super glue.

Do you need more than the one on the Hull rt. rear corner that is cast in the gell coat?
If so, a set of number & letter stamps & a piece of 1/8 stainless get & after it. |

On our CD22 the metal one on the stern was in the same shape as you described. I caught it just in time. The one under the brow was good, but with your reminder Harvey, time to check again.

I believe that most of the C Dory's have had the second HIN under the forward eyebrow. Certainly a good idea to check it.
Some boats have the aluminum plate on the Starboard outer transom, some have the numbers set into the hull when the boat was molded. The transom is the place required by law in the US.
Quote: | Coast Guard regulations require manufacturers to affix two identical Hull Identification Numbers (HINs) on every recreational boat used or intended to be used on waters subject to Federal jurisdiction Each Hull Identification Number consists of 12 continuous characters at least one-quarter of an inch in height, uninterrupted by spaces, slashes, hyphens or other symbols |

Seems Midnight Flyer also has one in the rear of the port cubby (battery compartment), on the inside of the gunnel. |

Hey Jay, no worries, you are not the only place I have heard "cuddy" so no problem. (Although I think that "cuddy" generally refers to the area forward of the helm bulkhead, under the foredeck.
I don't recall ever seeing a metallic strip with stamped numbers on that aft stbd transome. Have seen lots of ones there that had numbers and letters stamped into the gel coat there.
