Good afternoon ya'll
I have a 9.9 4 stroke motor that had an oil change and tune up about three years ago. I never ran it after the service. It was the kicker on the 83 Sensei. Sold theboatbut kept the motor.
What should I do before trying to start this thing and what do you think it will cost _________________ Roger on the "SENSEI"

Put gas in it and pull the cord. Chances are it will start. I've left motors a lot longer than 3 years and they started with a little patience. What brand? Carb? _________________

if it is a carburetor engine, and the fuel was not run out of the carbs, then they may have to be cleaned and adjusted.
I would give a gentle pull on the starting cord, and see if the engine is free. If it is free, and stored in a reasonably dry environment it should start right up.
I would just be sure that the fuel was new, that there was plenty of oil in the crankcase, and try to start.
If it is not free, then you will want to put some penetrating oil in each of the cylinders. Let it sit for at least 24 hours, then turn the engine over by hand a few times, before cranking it.
The impeller may have taken a set--or it may be OK. If the water stream is OK when run on a bucket or in the water, (not on a hose) the impeller is probably fine. _________________ Bob Austin
