We have a 22' cruiser with twin Honda 40's on C-Squirt.
She came with a pair of 4 blade plastic props which worked fine but were chipped. Not sure of the pitch.
She also had a a pair of aluminum 3 blade props which looked to be in new condition. 13 pitch.
After replacing the 4 blade plastics with the 3 blade aluminum props we got a lot of slippage on the shaft of the both moth motors.
Turned out that both sets of props were just worn out. Bummer.
We bought a new of 3 blade props which now seem to cause cavitation until we get up on plane.
What are others using with the same configuration. Our next thought is a set 3 blade, 11 pitch props.
Any help would be helpful.
Thank you in advance _________________ Wishing you and yours fair winds, following seas and a snug harbor. |

Sounds more like ventilation than cavitation. Normally ventilation is caused by motors mounted to high causing air to be sucked down & mixed with water around the prop & cavitation generally from a damaged prop.
My twin Honda 40’s were mounted slightly on the high side & I would with three blade props get ventilation at times until adding permatrims. This totally solved the problem. I have run three blade props with pitch from 10 to 13 with no difference in ventilation. These photo shows the mounting of the twin 40’s height & then the the mounting of my new twin Honda 60’s.

I also have twin Honda 40's on my 22 that look to me to be mounted with the same bolt pattern as shown in the photos. As drilled, the location of the lower bolt limits the height adjustment to "1 hole up" or "1 hole down" on the top bracket from the height shown.
Maybe using the "4th hole" would set the engine too high on the transom anyway, but it still makes me wonder why the bolts are spaced so that the adjustment range of the lower slot does not match the available adjustment range of the holes above? Anybody know why?

JODY, No, they haven’t been in the water yet. Got back from Portland last Friday & have been getting the boat ready for its 30 day stay on Yellowstone Lake. Will be there the 15th & then start the break in & prop testing. Are you still planning on being back to Yellowstone on the 24th.
