Has anyone changed the helm seat in the 225 tomcat to a larger chair with arms, head rest and the ability to recline ? |

The helm space in the Tom Cat and 25 are about the same. Some have changed out the chair--and even one with arms and and even swivel. Not aware of one which reclines. If you removed the refrigerator which is below some of the helm seats, there might be room to mount a pedestal type seat. However there is just not much room to recline. Some find the area between the wheel and seat "cramped". The chair could be made to fit--but would you? _________________ Bob Austin

Billybrat,
I have been actively searching for a comfortable seat for my 26. Some C-Brats provided feedback, which has been helpful, but I still am checking to ensure that the chair that I install, does all of these:
1. Does not interfere with the sink/galley, shifter control and leg room under steering wheel.
2. Lighter color (very durable) cloth, as naugahyde is very warm and uncomfortable when you are hot.
3. Comfortable for long trips.
4. Arm rest a plus.
5. High back a plus.
6. Head rest a plus.
7. Some adjustments for other operators.
What I have found is that the nice yacht chairs are very expensive and mostly naugahyde. Also most are too large for the footprint we have.
Several chairs really got my attention (Bentley Marine's Patriot for example), but the backs are in a permeant slight reclined position, which interferes with the sink. I talked to the manufacturer and even with the back, reclining option, it still will not work.
One C-Brat mentioned chairs for tractors, so that may be the path that I take. Tractor Supply has a very fine chair that meets all but one requirement above, but I found the same chair on eBay that looks just like the one at Tractor Supply, but may meet all of the requirements (I am waiting on seller to provide exact measurements.... _________________ Steve Baum

If you check my album you will see the RV Captains seat I used in my Tomcat. I also raised the seat by adding a chart compartment underneath giving me improved vision over the bow
I'm also restoring a 62 VW crew cab and found these black leather Chrysler fold down captains chairs on eBay. The flat surface appears perfect for added galley counter space, not to mention the dual armrests for cruising. (note - folded flat picture is on 2nd page) _________________ John & Vicki Clark

any of you suggest a nice deck chair for my new boat that’s coming in the spring? Must be the correct height to use for dining or as an occasional deck chair….. folding - massage features - teak frame - stainless hardware - nonslip gliders - comfortable - narrow as possible - nice shape to them. I have seen a recliner here that is pretty nice but I was hoping for something just a little different…with a slightly different shape to it that I haven’t seen yet in my searches.
Again apologies for the nontechnical ask |

On our 22 cruiser I installed this seat at the Helm.

I liked it so much that I installed 2 more. No armrests, but a huge improvement over the original seats. You can see more photos in our album on third page.
These are a good quality for the price and they are made in the USA.
It comes in many colors. No sharp corners either. _________________ Doug & Susan |
