Welcome aboard! Hey that's a cool boat, pretty rare. One of the 21' Pro Angler models, with custom hardtop as you said. Don't see this model very often. We see more of the 26' Pro Anglers from time to time. Here's a listing of all the models made over the years, including the 21' Pro Angler V-bottom:

You can request an album from one of the admins (TyBoo or DaNag) and then upload some more photos here on C-Brats!

Also, here's a link to an album of another 21 Pro Angler. Apparently the Offshore version with outboard bracket. Your boat would have looked similar before someone added that custom hardtop..

Thanks....

NADA doesn't have the 21' Pro Angler V bottom on their pull down menu for the 1989.... obviously not all models will be listed...

I'm new to this type of boating and I am trying to figure out what this boat is made for.... open ocean (within reason) or just bay use, etc.

Congratulations and welcome aboard. You snagged a very rare model. There are none listed in the "our C Dorys" that I could find.

Here are a couple of the brochures: 21 offshore:

The factory hard top version is the Pro Angler 21:

I would not be afraid to go to Catalina, or other Channel Islands in. S. Calif; In San Francisco Bay--or out to the Farallons on a calm day. I don't know if the 21's are self bailing or not--and how tight the fish holds are. So be sure and have a couple of good bilge pumps, in case the weather picks up. Of. course the usual safety gear, including good life jackets, at least one good VHF 25 watt radio, an EPRIB or PLB, appropriate cold water gear etc.

The hull has a substantial greater V than the 22's (12* for the 21, about 3* for the 22's), so will handle the chop better, yet by modern standards, it is still a low dead rise boat.

Here is a link to some further discussion:

A little more digging, C Moss, was owned for about 3 years by an active C Brat. She was sold in 89 new as a semi custom boat. Her serial number of 5 suggests that there were at least 5 built on the 20' hull. There is at least one open one, which Harvey has spotted in the Port Angeles area. Several of the hard top version have been mentioned. The mount of the engine seems to vary some. Power was up to 140 hp--so those boats probably rode well when in the mid to upper 30 mph range. Interesting that more were not made. Wonder what happened to the molds? Probably did not survive to the Reynolds (2002) era, or it would have been ideal for the center console model.

Cool Smile
I didn't even know that this past model existed...it's interesting that the hull had more deadrise than the boats of today.
It sure reminds me of my past Arima 17 Ranger. Same windshield shape, same interior layout including the cuddy. Really enjoyed that boat, but wanted an enclosed cabin..

I've seen a CD-12 Pro Angler model myself, and mentioned it here around 2000 with photos (actually former C-Brat site). It was in a slip down in Alameda in the SF Bay area. But it didn't have the pilothouse / cabin on it that yours does. It was like the one in the brochure Bob posted. Unless I'm seeing things wrong, the pilothouses are of a different configuration: See note below.

Brochure:

Maybe yours was a 21' Offshore that some owner added a custom DIY cabin to?
(The cabin doesn't look like a Toland product, or from the C-Dory line itself.)

Well, that didn't work. Sorry. Tried to bring the OP boat pix to here.

Here is the photo of the OP's boat. The boat looks like an offshore 21, who someone did a DIY cabin top to.

These are photos of the boat Harvey had linked to in the past. The photos give some idea of the amount of transom dead rise. Looks like the boat had a hard life!

Here's the boat in question. I see that Bob and I agree that the cabin must be an aftermarket DIY addition from it's style differences compared to the rest of the CD boats.
