I have a Tomcat and one of my fish box pumps suddenly quit. The screen came off so I suspect a clog but after cleaning the intake with a wet vac I still can't get the pump to turn on. Looked at the pump but could not find a rest switch. I welcome any advice on the matter. |

First check to see if the fuse is OK. If the pump impeller is shot or stuck, it may cause the motor to overload. (Also can you access the body of the motor and see if it is warm--any indication of current draw--such as lower voltage, if you don't have an amp meter in line with the electrical system.
The pumps have a slot in the back of the shaft--which is exposed on the back of the motor--often a stuck impeller can be turned, manually with a screw driver...problem is access to the pump....
The impeller is fairly easy to change, if you can get the entire unit out. _________________ Bob Austin

One of my fish box macerater pumps stopped working recently. I first checked the 20-amp fuse as Bob suggests. It was badly corroded to the point that it disintegrated as I removed it from the holder. After cleaning up the fuse holder and replacing the fuse the pump still did not run. I checked the voltage on the load side of the switch and it was not present (line side was). I removed the spade connectors from the back of the switch and cleaned the contacts. The pump now runs. I was lucky that my problem was simple and I didn’t have to mess with the pump. _________________ Jim |
