Looks like a good way to keep the sleeping bags and bedding dry along the wall edges. I'll have to think about looking for some. Does it increase the condensation any along the hull walls? Or I should say, allow mold/mildew to form quicker without the air flow? Colby |

Colby, the condensation runs down the walls behind the foam, so the bedding is protected. Before adding the hypervent it then under extreme condensation conditions would soak into the cushions & then work into the bedding. I’ve used the camping foam from Walmart’s for the last 16 summers & the hypervent a little less. There has been no mildew behind the foam or in under the hypervent during this time, but in extreme condions like our our starting an extended cruise out of Skagway, Alaska in April, we have had to soak up water under the hypervent & remove it with paper towels or rags. When we lost the Wallas & had to heat & cook with propane or very cold high humidity conditions usually caused the most extreme condensation leading to dry out the complete bedding, but that was before adding the hypervent. I highly recommend both for SE Alaska cruising in a CD 22.

I just came from WalMart and they have Yoga Pads, (colors and prints) that are 3 mm thick, $7.49. They also have pads that are 1/2" think, all blue. They are a foot longer and run $14 something. Those are the ones I have been using. I have had no moisture noted after I started with that.
They also had a 2" thick pad called a Super Pool Pad for $75. Didn't get the length on that but about the same width as the others, 24". It has a soft surface coating on it over a fairly soft foam material. Sorry, don't have any web links.

I’ve gone through two sets of the blue 1/2 inch made by Coleman & that is what I have in there now. Thinking back the first set before the hypervent did get some mold & is why I replaced. |

Thanks for the additional info. I like the pink foam I put down on the bottom, but yes, I still have moisture to mop up around the edges. Don't think I'll go to the hypervent, but think I will look into the yoga pads or thinner stuff. Anything to keep the edges of the bedding dry will be nice on a longer trip, such as the one on the Inside Passage I'm planning. Colby |

As options to Hypervent, I have looked at "Deckadence" (marineflooring.net) which I think would be close to the same as far as air movement. Another thought was DryDeck. Both have open air movement ability, and neither are as harsh as the Hypervent.
Admitted, I have not seen either used for mattress ventilation purposes.

I have the Deckadence on my cabin and cockpit floor. It is heavy, fairly thick, and very expensive. Great for the floor, but I don't think I would use it in my Berth! I did buy the cheaper Yoga mats today. Two of them. They are 68" x 24" x 3 mm. The more expensive mats are only 4" longer and 4 or 5 mm in thickness. My plans are to leave the pink board down under the mattress, and then put the mats from just under the edging of the mattress, to up along the sidewalls. Looking to keep the bedding completely dry this way. (I'll place the lower edge of the mats, under the pink board I already have.) Colby |

Deckadence is probably too soft to function the same as Hypervent. It also has many more "fibers" and is meant to be comfortable to walk on. |

The vinyl "spaghetti loop " pool mats are much cheaper than the Deckadence, but a similar weave--without the silicone dabs on the bottom. Agree the Hypervent is probably cheaper and better suited. _________________ Bob Austin

I've used the yoga mats for a season now, and very happy with how they've performed. I still get moisture from condensation, but at least the bunk and bedding are kept dry. As a recap, I have the 1/2" or 3/4" pink insulation board under my bunk, and the cheap walmart yoga mats along the side. This winter I am looking to replace my bunk cushions and just reviewing thru past threads to see what others have done. Colby |
