Hello all.
We just bought a C-Dory 22 cruiser, 2 c at last. We relatively are new to Anchorage and are likely going to be heading out of Whittier on this years summer jaunts. We are looking for intel on local anchorages for weekend trips. Any advice would be great.

Thank you,
MAC

I recommend searching local book stores for a copy of the Cruising Guide to Prince William Sound by Jim & Nancy Lethcoe. We are new to boating in the area as well but luckily the previous owner of our C-Dory included a copy of the book with the purchase. It was very helpful last year and has detailed information for almost all of the coves and anchorages in the sound. We use it every time we go out.

If you are interested in shrimping in PWS and don’t have pots already I highly recommend buying them from Steve at http://www.alaskashrimppots.com/index.html the pots worked great last year and he gave us some intel on a location we used every time we went out. We would average about 4-5 gallons of shrimp each trip.

Congratulations on the new boat, they really are the perfect boat for exploring PWS. Hopefully we see you out on the water in the spring.

The Lethcoe's book is good. I also like to carry the NOAA publication "U.S. Coast pilot 9", which covers cape Spenser to the Beaufort Sea (including PWS). The coast pilot isn't a "cruising guide", but it has a lot of good info in it. It can be downloaded free from NOAA, or a hard copy can be purchased from wherever you can buy paper charts. If you are interested is staying in a cabin as opposed to sleeping on the boat, now is the time to reserve one. Both the state and the U.S. Forrest service have cabins you can reserve - just google prince william sound cabins to find info about them and how to reserve.

Cruising Guide to Prince William Sound by Jim & Nancy Lethcoe Very good advice on this book & the coast pilot #9! Do not ever let your "imaginary" need to get back to civilization, override common sense in bad weather. Pay attention to where you anchor so you don't find yourself on a rock pile at low tide. Seward & Homer are great destinations also. Good luck & See ya out there! Mr. Green Beer
