My son is looking at a 2008 C-Dory Venture/150 Honda with 600 hours on it and trailer.
Pretty well equipped and fair maintenance all for approx $54k. Is this price reasonable??
Can anyone give us some good knowledge on this model?
Dr. Bob...????? Anyone.
Son is looking to replace the stolen 22' HIGH TIDE last summer.

Without knowing any more about that boat, I would still think it sounds like a pretty good deal. The 23V is a nice hull and a decent cabin setup. If it is sound, and has working electronics, and the OB checks out mechanically, seems like it might be a good investment in family memories.

More info would help. I agree with Harvey that it sounds like a fair price though. The 23's are nice boats but for $54k he's in the used 25 C Dory price range. I'd rather buy the 25 and have more amenities and real estate on board. _________________ <><><> Jason <><><>

Yes, that makes sense to me. Good thought.
Sometimes less is more, but sometimes more is more.
It would all depend on what your son (AND The Admiral, if there is one) values in a boat.
(A bathroom/shower is golden to most women!)
If he's determined to go C-Dory, then decide between the two.
Find one of each and get inside and spend some time and see how you feel, or how it "fits".
I wouldn't spend that kind of money, making that choice, without some serious, though investigation.
And I wouldn't make it based on some photographs and/or line drawings.
Try on the shoes before you have to walk in them. Window shopping is fun, but walking a mile or more in the new shoes might give you a different perspective.
Good Luck!

I remember when HIGH TIDE was stolen from your post last summer. Very sad and sorry that you had to go through that. We considered buying a used 23 Venture last summer but the condition of the boat and it being stored in the water long term made us change our minds. The price is reasonable but I would have to see it in person to better judge that. Has the boat been stored on the water for long periods of time? If not, does the owner flush the engine with freshwater for 10 minutes after each use and always freshwater rinse (or use Salt Away) the trailer and brakes after each dunk in saltwater? How the boat was cared for with proper maintenance will really makes the difference in your choice to buy or not. If the owner was very good to his boat and took meticulous care of it, I think it will sell within a couple of weeks. Venture 23's are not really that common and so your used selection is going to be limited which you probably have already found. I don't see any for sale on this site. |
