Interesting Marine Safety Alert issued August 2018 by USCG on LED lights interfering with VHF and AIS communications.

Thanks Phill. This bulletin has been around for a while but I had not downloaded or did the simple check. Good to know AND do. Wink

Interesting article. I don't have very many electronics on board. But it probably would be simple to run the test in the article for every item. Check for possible interference with the power inverter, microwave, induction burner, generator, etc. It might come in handy to know what to shut off when it is really important to broadcast or receive and maybe it's more than just LED lights.

Mark, I would be really interested in what your results are with the microwave. Seems like that could be a possible RFI or EMF source that a radio might pick up.

Harvey,

I don't have a microwave on board. But I do have an induction burner. I couldn't begin to tell you how either of them actually work, but I wouldn't be surprised if both are candidates for messing up radio signals.

Oh sorry for the assumption Mark. I thought you listed all the stuff you had on board. I didn't look at your albums but I see it is a 16. That would have been a highly loaded 16. I'm still interested in the VHF radio response with the Induction cooker. Please, keep us posted. And Thank you.
