Looking for a 22 Angler for a fishing boat.
Would prefer 4 stroke main and kicker.
Am able to travel for the right boat.

Thanks for the link.
Yes, I called and talked to sales about it. Sounds like a nice boat.
I know it would need at least a Perma Trim and have talked to some C Brats who own and have owned. One is happy with his and the other said the ride wasn't good.
Kind of looking at the post-1987 hull for better ride and wider hull at stern.

I have the 19 Angler with trim tabs and permatrim. Shorter boat of course but yes ride is not that great but if you slow it down then not bad. With the flatter bottoms on these boats I personally don't think any C-Dory is gonna have a good ride in any chop unless you slow down. If you want a fast boat then C-Dory is not the boat - Just my oppinion.

The 22 Angler for sale at Sportcraft Marina in Portland, Or. is probably a good boat. They have a great parts/service department and the mechanics are top notch quality people.

This Angler for sale looks like it wants to get out there on the water and continue it's life of service to put many more crabs, shrimp and fish in the box.

C-Dory boats may take a little longer to get out there on those fishing grounds but the fuel efficiency and stable fishing platform are outstanding!

Thanks everyone. We have a 25 now and it's time to separate the fishing from cruising and keep the 25 clean and for its intended purpose.

Haliman, looks like you have caught lots of fish in your 19.
Gary F., do you know the owner of the 22 Classic at Sportcraft?

I see there's another 22 Classic in Renton on CL. It has a 60 hp Mercury 4 stroke, is that underpowered? Looks like a nice boat, too.

Salmon Fisher, I will call Tim at Sportcraft tomorrow and see if I can get some history on that boat. It looks very clean and well maintained from the pictures.

Patrick,

Just got off the phone with Tim at Sportcraft. Tim said he personally knows the owner of the boat. The owner is an elderly man who must sell the boat for health reasons. Tim said the boat is in great shape and that they went through it completely and everything is in working order. Looks to be like a sound purchase, being equipped with radar and ready to take out to fish right from the start.

Just my $0.02, FWIW!

The original 22's were designed for a 75 hp 2-stroke, which weighed about 260 lbs.

The Classic pre-1987 dory hull (looks like a clothes iron from the bottom view) is probably a less efficient planing hull than the 1987 and later semi-dory with a shallow V hull.

On a positive note, the 60-hp 4 stroke depending on model, year, etc., doesn't seem to weigh much if any more than the 260 lb 2-strokes of old. (Surprisingly!)

However, the 60 hp is 20% less hp than the 75, and with the older hull, would be hard worked most of the time at speed, particularly if loaded up with large/ heavy crew and / or cruising gear. Might be a slow, semi-planer. And the heavy workload would shorten engine life as well, perhaps an even bigger drawback. Then there's the problem of losing hp when operating at higher elevations!

I owned a 1987 CD-22 Cruiser with first a 90 hp Johnson 2-stroke, then a Yamaha 90 hp 4-stroke. I definitely preferred having the 90 hp motors, and particularly when loaded up with weight or up in the mountains.

The latest trend is to go to a 115 hp 4-stroke motor to compensate for the heavy 4-stroke motor weight, as well as heavy boat loading, and compensate for high elevation operation as well. (My 2005 90-hp Yami weighed 369 lbs vs. the 260 lb original design for motors.) Think about it: 115 hp is 192% of 60 hp! And 90 hp is 150% of 60 hp! How do you spell under powered? (W-E-A-K)

If you were going to use the boat in question mostly at displacement speeds, with light loading, and at sea level or near it, it might be OK, but I wouldn't be happy with it. Just my opinion,

Good Luck!

My 1981 angler has a 75 etec on it and I personally would not want anything less. I am already propping down to a 15" and probably should be a 13" to get my rpm up to over the 5k mark

My two cents! (cause that is all I have anyway!)

Joe, looks like you saw the similar priced '86 Angler with the 60 hp Mercury 4 stroke. Nice new trailer, but low hp, I agree.
The one in Portland has a 75 hp Honda.

I am still looking, still wondering if anyone with a later model hull and more HP 4 stroke is considering selling because I am a willing and able buyer!! Very Happy

Hey Pat,

90 Yamaha with permatrim does us great! Let me know if/ when you want a test drive before you buy. Our old boat does everything we need and is perfect for day trips out fishing.

22 Anglers in good shape go pretty fast as not many built in comparison to the Cruisers....and...some of the Anglers did not live a gentle lives. Roger Johnson looked for a long long time and I got lucky finding another soon after in great shape. Good luck in your hunt.
