I'm sure we all know that most 'upgrades' are pretty hard on the wallet. I thought it would be nice to share some more cost effective things we've done that have made a difference in our boats.

I'll start. I recently removed the bolts holding the cabin top handrails and replaced them with eye bolts and tied some line through them to make a hand hold. I recently had my brother-in-law aboard and he mentioned a couple times that he needed a hand hold. I really like how the green fleck line looks. I think I got the idea from Bob, thank you Bob.

There have been several threads along the same theme over the years. All are good and as times change (and advance) there are new ideas and new devices. (And there may be other threads too.

We keep small bottles of shampoo, conditioner and zipper lube in these to stop them from rolling around in the cockpit pockets

This is under the stove to store spare parts, sundries and any other items we sometimes need

This sticks on the wall next to the front passenger seat

I bought two of these airplane visors for when we head out early into the blinding sun

Placard for our guests

Eight tank racks for our scuba tanks

Handheld VHF in case we lose electrical power

Fans. These are cheap on Amazon and Ebay, but they have lasted a couple of years so far. They put out a lot of wind.

Six feet of PVC tubing from Home Depot for a flagpole

$30 brass clock from Ebay

Air dryer as an addition to our two dehumidifiers

Camera and dive computer rinse tank

Ten feet of shower hose to reach everywhere in the cockpit. We try to keep as little water inside the cabin as possible.

More expensive add-ons include a custom dive ladder, lettering and 425 feet of chain.

Anyone that spends time on the boat with a dog could benefit from a Furminator. We spend a couple weeks at a time on our boat with a Rottweiler and the Furminator makes all the difference, no more hair packed around the bilge pump and in every corner,

One of the best additions on our boat has been a PVC roof rack. Gets everything up and out of the way. Some have mentioned issues with added windage from the weight up high but we have not noticed a problem. The one thing about the c dory is it’s ability to do so much but with limited space to store gear and this mod has remidied this problem for us. Things like crab and prawn traps are easy to store up top as well as Rubbermaid containers with random supplies, I also keep the deflated zodiac tender upfront on the roof rack. We would not bring these things as easily if it weren’t for a manageable place to store them.
