I'm in the research phase of a future used C-Dory purchase. Does anyone know where I can find a history of changes the factory made to the standard C-Dory 22 cruiser from 1979 to today?

I've searched on this board and found plenty about changes to hull mold ownership, and some anecdotal remarks re. things like cockpit floor height changes, etc., but that's all. I'm guessing more than a few have this information and hopefully it's been summarized somewhere. Thank you.

There is a thread which was active in the last year about details. All you really need to know is that in 1987 the hull mold was changed. Prior the bottom was flat, and cored with plywood--a true semidory. After there was a balsa, and some more recently, a foam core, and a couple of degrees of deadrise, with variable degree going forward to the bow. That has been unchanged to the present day. The Early boats did not have a splash well as we have after 1987. There was also a very small @ reverse shear added to the chine in 1987. I do not believe that any boats were produced until 1981. That is the earliest year any of the CDory's were reported, and I saw my first one in late 1981 or early 1982.

Other changes have been cabin house, enclosed aft bulkhead, different materials for the aft bulkhead, teak rails to SS rails etc.

That’s very helpful information. I’m trying to put together a history of when changes were made to the C-Dory 22. I understand the boats can often be modified to incorporate some of these changes, and many have done so. I’m just trying to compile a list of factory changes. Based on your information and info from other threads, here’s my rough start. I’m hoping others can add changes, fill in dates and details for when specific changes were made, and correct any inaccuracies below. Thank you!

1981 - Flat bottom hull and inner floor, made of encapsulated flat plywood sheets of about 1" thick wood plus glass plies above and below (inside/outside) to make a sandwich laminate. No splash well.
1987 - Hull curved fore to aft and curved side to side w/a curved balsa core, which is little balsa blocks connected with a scrim material which can be laid up in compound (non flat) curves, and saturated with resin and encapsulated with fiberglass above and below. Splash well added.
? – a couple degrees of dead rise added to the hull, with variable degree going forward to the bow.
? – cockpit floor raised 2” to 3” above outer hull
? - changes to cabin house?
? – aft bulkhead enclosed
? - change in materials for aft bulkhead
? – teak rails to stainless steel rails
? – galley made from fiberglass instead of wood
? - cabin sole become part of outer hull
? – door changed from solid w/window to all glass door (better view to rear)
? – storage under V-berth, instead of foam
? – fuel tank size changed to ?
? - fuel tank material changed: aluminum? poly?
? – reversible/ sliding seat on port side

Hmm...for starters can folks tell me the size of the fuel tanks that came with your C-Dory 22, the material (alum or poly), and the model year of your boat?
Thank you.

I wrote a lengthy reply--but it seems to have appeared into cyberspace.

Reasonably accurate. The bottom has a very small "V", the amount at the transom is called the "deadrise". There is minimal if any "rocker" along the keel, and very slightly along the sides. The bottom is not curved --there is a reverse shear along the chine. There is a gradual increase in the "V" forward--and minimal as you define "curving.

Yes
Quote:

No
Quote:
? - changes to cabin house?

Angler vs the cruiser.
Quote:
? – aft bulkhead enclosed

A few more modern boats have also had no solid aft bulkhead
Quote:
? - change in materials for aft bulkhead

Change from plywood with laminate to balsa cored fiberglass.
Quote:
? – teak rails to stainless steel rails

The boats came with teak rails until the mid 1990's some early boats retrofitted with SS.
Quote:
? – galley made from fiberglass instead of wood

The entire furniture on the inside was sometime in the 2007 to 2008 era
Quote:
? - cabin sole become part of outer hull

Nope--not in the 22
Quote:
? – door changed from solid w/window to all glass door (better view to rear)

Plywood to Starboard about late 1990's. Starboard to glass about 2006-07 The all glass is not better. I liked the optional opening window in the door

Quote:
? – storage under V-berth, instead of foam

Some did not come with foam about 2008 May have been an option
Quote:
? – fuel tank size changed to ?

variable depending on tank manufacture--18 to 25 gallons There were some custom and optional tanks of Aluminum. There are a few boats with nearly 100 gallons--owner options
?
Quote:
- fuel tank material changed: aluminum? poly?

Owner option
Quote:
? – reversible/ sliding seat on port side

Owner option--some were done by owners as early as about 2002. Sometime in early 2000's became a factory option.

Fuel tank--cannot pin years down--since may change suppliers in mid year. My 1993 boat had 23 gallon tanks and the 2007 had 25 gallon tanks both were poly.

You must consider some of the earlier boats have been highly modified by owners,.
