I’m out there right now. I saw the remnants of the boat on the hard near Scuttlebutt. I’ll try to get pics on my way home. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

Scary as all get out! My Ranger Tug is in the center boathouse (multiple slips in one house) in that row of three. I rented that slip for a month till i can haul out.
I came home from errands, and Nancy said, look at the news. I called the marina and my section of the boat house was not affected. Going down tomorrow to inspect.
I might get any photos I can, but I suspect the last boathouse is closed off.
Those three boathouses are scheduled for demolition after Nov1. Strange that there should be fire just now? They are a fire trap. Almost all wood construction, with plywood dividers, no fire sprinklers. _________________ Larry H

The boat burned to the water line. It was a single screw trawler of some type, maybe a Taiwan-type trawler, but who knows except the owner.
From the looks of the hull growth, the boat may not have been taken care of, but I'm speculating by only looking at what's left of the hull. There was a lot of growth around the keel where the screw is mounted. Pics in my album. |

Thanks for the photos of the fire victim. That boat hull looks a lot like the Taiwan built 37ft Puget Trawler that I owned.
Likely 40 years old. I would suspect that it was an electrical fire, possibly from the AC inlet/plug. Just a guess. |

larry , nice to hear that your boat is safe. Are you thinking the burnt boat is your old boat or just like your old boat. |

Not my previous boat. Just another old Taiwan built trawler.
My previous boat is in Portland, safe and being cared for.
I was there today, and my boat was undamaged, with no smell of smoke. I didn't get very close, but the end of the building was damaged, the marina staff said about 5 stalls were involved.
I am out of there by the end of the month. That building is not safe. Any fire that starts on a boat in one of the closed stalls can get burning strongly before anyone notices. The mostly wood structure would spread the fire quickly.
Because the stalls are locked and have doors on the stern end, there is no way to push out non-involved boats to create a fire break. In a boat fire in open slips, it is recommended to untie and push out or tow out non-burning boats to create a fire break. The drifting boats can be rounded up later. Several boats were saved in the La Conner/Shelter Bay fire by towing them away from the flames using dingys.
The only evidence of the fire two days later was a slight sheen on the water and some small floating debris around my boat. |

I’m assuming a Puget Trawler is like a CHB, Marine Trader etc. Taiwan made in the late 70’s, early 80’s? Lots of teak inside. Exactly what I assumed it was from looking at what was left. |

localboy,
Yes, you are right. The same yard that built CHB also built the other brands, or the next boatyard over borrowed the mold to build the other brand name. 'Puget Trawler' was a lesser known brand, but the hull is the same as CHB, and Ocean Alexander in the late 70's and early 80's. We called the similar boats 'cousin' boats. as the yards in Taiwan were owned by members of a family. The cabins and trim varied, as did the interior woodwork, but all were built on a hull designed by Monk. |
