well I am finally a member with a C-dory
found a 1989 16 angler with a 1999 50 hp Johnson 2 cycle
with ez-loader trailer, with 3 brand new tires, wipers, vhf, cb, and fish finder as well as full cover, anchor, 2 big john elec down riggers with covers, rod holders, 2 batteries, etc., etc,
in Branson Misouri- drove from Wichita to pick up-a craigslist find..++

it was listed as a Sea Dory- boat never used in salt water- ran it this weekend in Grand Lake Oklahoma--I was cautioned by 21' bass boats to not run in the main lake because of the waves and the small size-but had no issues... in fact I went out when the 21 ranger was afraid of conditions. dry..

finally able to participate as an owner =

Hey pvlmal,

Congratulations! Very Happy My wife and I have a blast on our little CD 16 cruiser. We've found we can get into coves where even fishermen won't tread due to 'shallow water' and when the weather kicks up we've never had a problem getting back in. Fun and safe boat.

Have fun and be safe. Spuncopper

Welcome to the 16' Club. If the waves build up, just reduce your speed. The boat is a cork. I've gotten caught in a tidal change where waves were washing over the fore deck and I could only see through the windshield every other one, but I didn't take a bit of water in the boat. Shocked

I told my wife later, I was glad she wasn't along. So I was the only one screaming. Wink

Look through the site and I'm sure you will find lots of ideas for ways to make your 16 more usable. CoolSmile

Outstanding.

You are in for a treat. I've had my CD16 since 2013 and have totally amazed at what the boat can do. From the gulf of Mexico (20 miles out) fishing the man made reefs off Pensacoloa/Gulf Shores, to awesome trips out on Lake Michigan loading the boat with salmon, the adventures with a CD16 are memorable.

I'm sure you will take the same precautions that I do, like studying the weather, wind/wave forecasts, and reading the water etc before you go out, so that you and your passengers will safely return to port.

For me, the most amazing aspect of it's "saltiness" is how the boat hull rises out of the water waaaaaaaay before the crest of the wave gets to the hull and so on. I remember a day out on Mobile Bay where I was drifting for bottom fish in 5 foot swells (not waves). Every time a swell would get to the boat, she would rise with the swell, not dig into it like some boats do.

Know how to make the CD16 (or any boat for that matter) even better? Get you an autopilot... you'll never understand how you boated without it.

Many safe returns to port......

Congratulations on your "New To You" 16, and enjoy. They are very sea worthy and the advantage of being small is that they are more like a cork. Take stuff head on, just like in life and you will be fine.
