Another memorable fishing trip in Nootka Sound is in the books. This trip was challenging and unique, but we took advantage of favorable sea conditions to get outside and fish the ocean, which was actually smoother than inside. Evidently, because of the full moon the fish were gorging themselves on squid all night, so they were not in a biting mood come morning.
This is how smooth the ocean was about 10 miles offshore just past the 50 fathom line:
This is the first year we did not catch a single fish on the inside, but we did relatively well offshore. One day we caught a limit of 4 Chinook and 4 Coho in about 2 hours:
We didn't find any halibut this trip, but we did scratch up a couple of small lingcod. Traci's was the first keeper fish she caught on her custom built spiral-wrapped halibut rod.
Another wonderful trip, and a lot of fun. The weather was nearly perfect, although the fog was pretty thick at times. It's amazing (and a little scary) how many run without radar knowing the fog can get thick up there.
We ran into Amy-Jo from Montana, C-Dawn from BC, and saw a number of other C-Dorys.
Getting off the grid to spend time on the water is good for the soul. I can hardly wait to get up there again next year. _________________ Rick & Shirley

Sounds like you had a great trip Rick. So did you get your possession limit?
And now I see you're selling C-Dawg. Are you getting a bigger fishing boat?

We were 3 shy of our Chinook limit, but the Coho limit was an unexpected benefit. A halibut would have been nice... maybe next year.
Yeah, I'm looking for a little more boat. |

I am interested in the area, not so much the fishing, but the area, and launch etc.
