Got my first replacement for the FA5G. The replacement also has the model number FA5G. It still has a plastic handle but a metal nozzle and metal pull pin. The new one is 3lbs vs 2lbs for the old one. They also sent a return label to send the old one back.

I checked mine. It is a FA10G (white) made in 04. It is not part of the recall.

Thanks for posting. Two out of three were recalled and new ones are being shipped.

Has anybody seen why they are being recalled? I didn't see any info on the website. Just curious as to what went wrong and why so long undetected.

They said a few have failed to discharge due to the handle either breaking or not working right. At least one leading to a death.

I have to say the recall information was confusing. When I filled out the form on the Kidde website, my model numbers were on the list of recalled extinguishers and it let me register them (all 3) for replacements.

Then about a week or so later, I get an email from them asking me to confirm that my extinguishers were affected. Apparently, only extinguishers with a straight plastic handle and vertically oriented pull-pin are being recalled. So in the end, my extinguishers were NOT affected. Why they couldn't have included that information in the original recall notice makes no sense to me.

I got the same email request for confirmation that conflicted with the original list. They must have reached out too far with that initial list and are using the email response to "confirm" submissions.

I had 3 fire extinguishers meeting the requirements on the first list, and all 3 are the same type, so I know they all are covered. I got the same email, and after responding got a new extinguisher in about a week. I just sent a msg thru their website over the weekend requesting advice on my other two, giving them the ID numbers that were given when I submitted my claims. Still waiting to here back! Colby

I got my first one back today 11/30 and sent an old one back to them . I wonder why they have to ship one at a time?

When this recall first appeared, I checked ours and the indicator was in the green. Recently I took another look and it was slightly in the red. Thinking it would have to be recharged, I called Kidde to find out if it could be recharged. After they asked a lot of questions, they said it was eligible for a recall replacement, at no charge. So some months later ours failed after initially it was ok. Just letting you know about this so you can keep an eye on your extinguishers and not get caught with one that might not work later on. By the way, first I went to the website but could not figure out if ours fell in the recall range, so if you have a potential problem, you might have to call them for help.
