I was just in at Sportcraft and noticed Suzuki is finally making long shaft for the 2.5. Approx $820...

I saw that as well. Great for lightweight kicker duty, but not as great for most dinghys. We have the short and I would still lean strongly that way because we use it on the dingy much more than as a kicker, and the added length would make shore landings and shallow water put-putting a bit tougher.

I hear you, but I’m still tempted. I don’t do that much shallow putt putt.

Looking at your album, it looks like you mount your kicker directly to the transom, which I do as well on my 22'. On my 2016 the transom is too thick and/or clamp is too narrow to mount up my 2.5 Suzuki directly onto the transom. For that matter I can barely squeeze my 6 hp Tohatsu clamp over the transom. But no problems at all with my 6 hp Suzuki onto the transom (which is also a short shaft and works great as a kicker BTW).

I just measured all three clamps and there is only about 1/16" to 1/8" difference between the clamps on my 2.5 Suzuki, 6 Suzuki, and 6 Tohatsu, the 2.5 being the narrowest. I think it's just slight variability in the layup of the transom that's preventing the 2.5 from going on. So my point is, before taking the plunge you might want to confirm the 2.5 will fit onto your particular transom if that is your plan, or be prepared to mount a separate plate to attach the kicker, as many people do.

I have had the 2.5 on my transom. It was tight, but fit. If I get crazy, I’ll check the long shaft fit before I buy.
