Yesterday the spring part on the clicker of the winch failed. never replaced one before, does anyone know what size I should put on it? its a 1989 Ez Loader trailer. the current winch is a 2 gear one but I never used the second gear so looking for a single hand crank. also boat is a 22 cruiser.

thanks for any info.

I have a Fulton 2600 lb 2 speed and it works well for me. They have some single speed units as well. I prefer the strap to the cable. They seem to be well built. I just replaced the one I had after 28 years of service (first owner and our use). It probably still had life left in it but had corrosion.
There is a thread or two on this subject if you search on "Trailer Winch".
Plenty of info out there to gather opinions/experience as you sort through options.

I should mention that I have a roller trailer. Winching up on dry bunks on a steep ramp can be a different issue.

You probably really want to have a two speed trailer winch. The 1000 single speed models are just not husky enough for our 22's.

It is very possible that you can get a new pawl spring. Many of the winches use the same spring or similar springs. Also you may find the spring on an industrial site. E-trailer has winch pawl repair kits, including the spring--this may or may not be the spring you need. Here It is possible that you may find the name of the winch stamped on its frame.

sorry posted this then we went to mexico and kinda forgot about it. it wasn't the pawl spring, I worded that wrong on the engage clicker for retrieve or release had a thin metal cover that ran along the side and then tabbed over the release pin that held the spring engaged or not. the wife broke the tab off so it just freely goes back and forth. the winch is a Shelby and they are no longer in business, from what I read online better to replace as parts are getting harder to come by. and it has some corrosion on it so ill just swap out.

does anyone know of a good company to go with for replacement? and looks like I will be keeping with a 2 speed. current one is rated to 2800 lbs.
