Wanted to share my latest project for the 23 Venture...
Found Mantus Marine (love my 13 lb anchor) has stainless steel rail clamps in 3 sizes...7/8, 1 and 1 1/8 (I used the 1 inch).
Then I learned about a shaft collar with a 1/4 20 bolt hole (removed the set screw) which I placed inside of a 1 inch stainless steel pipe and ran the bolt through a drilled hole.
Used Yakima clamp racks on the pipe...pics in album under 2018.
Hope this helps others with their kayak rack project ideas.

Thanks Harvey...it took me a while to see the vision using the Mantus clamps but I have to give credit to the local Ace Hardware guy for putting me on to the shaft collar which helped secure the bar to the clamp.
Getting excited to get up there and see the gang!!!! |

Nice work! Do you have any part numbers or sources for the cross tubes and shaft collar? I might try something similar to mount my solar panel and leave room for a kayak.
Thanks for sharing your work! _________________ Patrick Rohde

For the stainless steel 1 inch pipes I used amazon...each was 5 feet long and I cut it to the length I needed.
For the shaft collars I used Ace Hardware and ended up finding the right size in Orchards...you want a shaft collar that barely slides through the pipe to the other end.
Keep in mind where you drill your hole for the Mantus clamp because you have line up the threads of the shaft collar to the hole to screw in the clamp.
I later purchased (online) 4 saddle washers to futher stablize the area of the bolt through the pipe. The saddle washer is flat on one side and like an inverted saddle on the inside to align with the pipe (had to learn about these as well).
Glad this might help you with your project!!! Enjoy!! Please share pics when done will be anxious to see your end result... |

Wow, looks great!
