Somebody buy this thing before I do something Ill regret. I want to put an Armstrong bracket on this and a new 4 stroke. At $6,000 it almost pencils out, but it would be a big project. Would need new electronics and all wiring. I really have enough projects right now. Plus I’m on the wrong coast. I did request pictures and it looks like a nice solid hull that’s been stored under cover since the motor blew over a decade ago. Heart says do it, but my brain says just buy another nice clean 22 like we had before and have fun with it. If I was retired already I’d just go ahead and do it.

You should probably have some check the hull. But at 6K--you could do a lot of work and new power plant--and still be under 50K. Probably some salvage value in the outdrive...

Oh to be young again!

If the project goes into the 50s, here is a solution. Buy "Great Republic" at this price and save yourself the headaches of a restoration adventure.

She's ready and waiting in Anacortes. Travis did all the hard work and money on this one. Here's the link:

Here is the link to his restoration, too.

That's a beautiful boat, for sure. What do you think, Jack in Alaska?

I don't see anything to validate that from the photos. Old fiberglass boats, as long as the layup was good, are totally restorable. I bought our Cal 46 if far worse condition that this boat is in. Restored it, cruised for 5 years and over 40,000 mlles and sold for 3x what I paid for it. The boat is still cruising full time, and looks pristine 20 years later--now over 45 years old.

This is the same hull as my boat and about the same year. I would put mine out to pasture but I'm to busy using using it and catching fish in it.

this boat has the fish holds forward and the fuel tanks towards the rear. I do not think the cabin is as long as mine so the head in most likely under the v-berth in these but not always. sure would like to see pictures of the insides.

If I didn't have two vintage autos currently under restoration, I would be up for this one. My 50' x 100' shop is full, but it would be a fun project.

Salmon: I totally agree!! How is Great Republic not sold yet?? That is an awesome boat and no major restoration is needed!

Starcraft: Of course you're not gonna put your boat to pasture!! You maintain it properly and use it....

I have a hard time understanding how
Great Republic has not sold yet. What a great fishing /weekend boat.

Agreed. But its always hard for folks to buy an older boat (even though this one has newer power). My new boat is 17 years old and believe me I was very skeptical at first of the proposition of buying an older boat.

Another thing about Great Republic is the lack of a proper head. Most boats over 25 feet usually have something.

I am going to take a look at her this weekend if schedules work out. I'll see how squishy the hull is. Wife will kill me if I actually buy it. Anyone else interested in me checking on specifics just need to ask.

My problem is I have a dealer offering a good deal on a yammy 225 take off motor.
