I'm getting an alarm from my monitor when it's out of the water at home on the trailer. My batteries are fully charged, so I don't think that's the issue.
I thought it could be the butane canister leaking, so I removed it, I know that butane isn't CO, but anyway.
The alarm still goes off! Could it be the monitor itself?
Any ideas? |

I had my monitor go off once when a cloth bag was up against it. I don't know if that is a safety feature or how it could tell that something was up against it, but it could clearly detect more than just CO.
A couple weeks ago I was idling downwind and could smell my exhaust once in a while. After a few minutes the CO monitor went off. I guess I should take the exhaust smell more serious.
Batteries fresh? Even when I've thought new batteries were fresh, I've found out by putting them in a smoke detector that they weren't up to snuff.

If it's a real Marine UL Fireboy-Xintex, it's most likely the EOL alarm at 5 years.
What is the MFG date stamped on the back of the unit? Has it been 5 years?

Too bad your TV, PC, toaster oven etc doesn't have this!

The magic in the CO detector runs out after awhile. Something like 5 or 10 years, depends on the model. When that happens the alarm will start making noise and you can't cancel it, at least with the Kidde one I have. |

My CO alarm went off several times this year while on shore power at my marina. I never could figure it out. But it scared me; its an eerie feeling the first time you hear it and you're sleeping!! _________________ <><><> Jason <><><>

I have had my CO alarm go off a few times. Glad for that, and never when I was sleeping, Glad for that too.
First question. How old? Most CO alarms have an End of Life alarm, and it cannot be reset or turned off.You have to take the batteries out. I had to deal with that one afternoon at the dock in Reid Harbor. I have had it go off at the dock another time, because some goofball set hes Honda 2000 generator on his swimstep, turned it on and left to go for a hike. And Yes, I was just aft a few feet, downwind, and sitting in my cockpit when he did it. AND NO, I did not give his generator a swimming lesson , but I was tempted.
I have had a couple of times when doing slow cruise, with the cabin door open and a light breeze, most from behind, and I only had my Starboard window open. Didn't smell any fumes, but did open both the center and other side window and it cleared in a couple of minutes.
The CO alarm gets new batteries every year at the beginning of the season, and it gets replaced ever 4 years since I had the EOL alarm situation and had the rest of the week to be out (without a CO alarm).

So far the only time my CO alarm has gone off is when the house battery gets low (sometimes happens if we anchor out and the refrigerator is being used). I have two, one on the house battery and one on internal batteries. |

Thanks for the input.
My house batteries are new, and The charge monitor shows 100%. The CO alarm is 9 years old, so it sounds like I'll be getting a new one.
Thanks again Brats |
