We took our new to us CD22 on our first overnighter to the Bass Islands in western Lake Erie (Put-In-Bay, etc). Numerous comments were heard and made about our boat, whether at a marina or stopped to fill up the truck with gas. So far:
"Cute boat"
"I wouldn't be caught dead in a boat like that"
"What an awesome cool boat. How much beam...?" etc.
and my favorite
"What the h@&& kind of boat is that? A #@%$ing submarine?"
Overall, I got asked a lot of questions. All good ones for the most part. If not, I made up stories to eff with them.
BTW, it was blowing 12-20mph for several days straight. Wave action was typical Put-In-Bay chop. 2 to 3 foot waves (maybe more?), close together, sometimes coming from all directions. Our ride back to the take-out included an 8 mile run directly into the wind and waves. We cleaned off the bow anchor, the foredeck and windshield, and appreciated the wipers. The boat handled it surprisingly well. Tested from 5mph to 15mph. Straight into the waves, and quartered. Varied the trim tabs and motor trim. At higher speeds, certainly gives your kidneys a test, with an occasional pound, but that's what you get with that wave action. At lower displacement speeds, no problem. Overall, I'm pleased as can be. Goes where I point, doesn't wander, handles confidently, and as you would expect and hope for. Thumbs up. |

A couple of years ago, at a gas station, I had a gal ask me:
"How old is that boat anyway, it sure looks new for being so old?"
I have been asked if I ever put that boat into the water.
Also, Is that a good fishing boat. It sure looks like it would be.
And one of my favorites, (and I'll leave it to you to guess why) Why do you have two motors, and they are both the same, wouldn't one work?
My answer "I just like the looks of two, I always wanted twins."

I get a lot of the "cute boat", "Gilligan's Boat", etc. But never a "I wouldn't be caught dead in a boat like that" . That one seems rather rude, so I'd say jealous! But our boats do bring up a lot of conversation and questions. (And too many times when we're in a rush to get somewhere else! lol) Colby |

Consider the source. My wife overheard the comment. Came from a guy on a large cigarette style boat. First, his uses are certainly night and day different from ours. Second, I suspect his man-hood was lacking. |

One of my favorites of all of the remarks that I have heard came from the dock master at Coinjock Marina in North Carolina...
While on a C-Brat mini-loop trip with about 7 C-Dory's, we tied up at the Coinjock Marina behind a line of about 20 mega yachts. The dock master said that he "normally ties up boats at his marina that he can see".
We all enjoyed putting a small amount of gas into our boats (most less than 25 gallons), while the mega yachts were taking on more than 1500 gallons of fuel. _________________ Steve Baum

We got this comment a few years ago when we still had our 22 cruiser. After a day of cruising on Lake Washington, we retrieved at Renton and as we were tying down there was a large engined low freeboard runabout next to us doing the same. His lady friend said we should have gotten a boat like that. To which the fellow said "Shut up and get in the truck".
Nuff said

Comments from others (+ or -, strangers or not) about your boat, on a deeper
level, are really none of your business.
What is said is not about you or the boat. It's about the person from whom the
comments arise. Their idea or expressed opinion is in their head which you have
no control over and has no bearing on you or yours. It's all about the person who
is commenting.
Take ego out of it.

I have never owned a boat that has received so many 'nice' comments from others. Be it in a service station, at a marina, or cruising a small cove, everyone has been really nice in their comments and questions. I have had several people comment that my C-Dory is their favorite boat on Grand Lake, and with 1300 miles of shoreline and hundred's of 50 foot plus boats on the water, I think that is a real compliment. Yea C-Dory! _________________ John & Vicki Clark

We've never had a detrimental comment about our boat, but did have a funny incident in the Broughtons. We were at the Lagoon Cove dock with 3 other Brats when a large Bayliner arrived. The skipper asked if those "little boats" would move so he could dock. Lagoon Cove responded that there was plenty of room, and that if he couldn't dock it safely, perhaps he didn't need to be there. If I remember correctly this was the same boat where the skipper's wife referred, in a Bronx accent, to their boat as a "Bayloser". _________________ "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. I was in the Ballard locks a few years back and was rafted off a cigarette boat (a Donzi). I asked how fast his boat went and he indicated 65MPH. He then asked how fast my 22 would go. I said, "70". He gave me a cross eyed look of disbelief and I followed with "... on the trailer". _________________ Roger on Meant to be |
