I'm doing Spring maintenance on 49er and once again looking at installing a pump in transom sump area. And once again I am stumped by lack of space due to dual batteries in the space between fuel tanks. I suppose the only solution would be to relocate at least one battery to the Lazarette. Ideas? |

There is not enough space to put the pump behind the batteries? My pump is all the way to the back. I don't have batteries installed between the tanks, but it seems like there is still enough room. |

Batteries are encased in battery boxes. Prior owner mounted metal support over half of sump to hold rear battery. There's no room. I would need to remove that support "shelf" and relocate rear battery. |

Jack,
I have two group 31's in battery boxes, and plenty of room in the back for the aft bilge pump. My batteries, are easily pulled out of the area between the two tanks. They sit on the floor. I don't normally have the straps on the boxes, but they are there if necessary. I even run a 3rd group 31 in a box, just in front of the two between the tanks. _________________ Bob Austin

Bob,
Wow. I'm not sure what group batteries they are but there is barely few inches back there. |

Jack, you only need a few inches for the bilge pump. Stick the base down in the sump, hook up the wires, and pop the pump (with tubing attached) into the base. |
