First time for me changing lower gear oil. Pretty straightforward. Bought WM gear oil pump and it claims the metal fitting works with Honda 70 +, should be all set, right, not. fitting is too large. Does anyone with the same engine know the right sizing for the pump fitting? I assume I can find an adapter or buy the correct pump that will work.
Thank you as always for the helpful non judgemental information.

I'm not certain what you're saying: the pump should work without an adapter or the adapter doesn't work.
However, I'm the owner of both a 9.9 and 150 Honda outboard. I use the same adapter for both. So if the pump was sold as working without an adapter, that's wrong. Go back and get the Honda adapter. I've bought 2 of those pumps, they both needed an adapter, 9.9 to 150.
I threw away the adapter packing so I can't give you the P/N, sorry. West Marine shows both a 10 mm and an 8 mm adapter. Take in your gearcase screw and match it up.

Agree, the adaptor which comes with these pumps are not correct for any of the Hondas from 2 to 150 hp (don't know about larger motors, but probably true there also) _________________ Bob Austin

My pump has not fit the hole for years. Just hold it tightly in or against the hole and pump away until it comes out of the top hole.
When you are 50 miles from a supply store you just need to improvise.
