Hey Gang,

I found that well built crabbing davit we spoke about earlier and wanted to pass on the info in case anyone else was looking.

The contact is Mike Hyde C/O Brothers welding in Brinnon WA. His Phone is 360-796-4163 and his email address is broweld@olypen.com He doesn't have a web site but is very communicative and can Email the specs. on his davit system. Price wise it cost me $139, (including postage) for the manual labor model. It's about $400 with the B&S motor, and $600 with the Honda motor. These prices are approximate, get a hold of Mike for the real skinny.
You get the hand made heavy duty aluminum davit with choice of 2 open blocks, a base mount & gunnel mount. He will fabricate to the specs. of your gunnel if you need the one with the motor mount. It also comes with a locking pin and the unit just slides up out of the mounts for easy storage Thumbs Up.This is the same thing you can find at Fishermans Marine Supply. Mike is the one making and selling these through FMS, but he will sell direct to you. (save $$$) I should get it in a week or so and will be able to test it hopefully by the end of the month. I'll leave feedback here.

It sounds similar to the one I have on the Sensei, Mine is a powered unit with the honda motor on it. When you have a shrimp pot and 350 ft of rope , it gets rather hard to pull without power. believe me I had to pull all 4 in heavy seas when the B&S died. that is why I Have a Honda now.
the davit is a good one and works great. try to get the nylon lined gunnel mount if you can.

Moskwass,

I'm sure you folks pulling shrimp and crab in the Sound or ocean need that motor for the deep water. Down here in the Oregon bays I'm pulling crab out of 15' to 30' and still feel young enough to heft them up by hand. Can't wait for the smelt to run, gooooood bait Wink.

Thanks for the feedback.

Sensei Roger, Didn't you post a picture of your pot puller somewhere? I looked around the site but couldn't find it. Perhaps you could help me find these pictures? Thanks, Tim

Never mind Roger, I just found the pictures.

Couldn't find those pictures Sad. Would like to see where and how that is mounted. I'm thinking starboard just behind the cockpit wall at this point. Should be out of the way and a strong mounting postion. Wadaya think?

There are three pictures of Roger's pot puller in the Detail Photos album (Cockpit and Accessories - Tech Library). The pics are on the first album page. Or, you can just click this, this, and this, to shoot right to 'em. It appears these shots were taken back in Roger's B&S days (not to be confused with his BS days, which are still going on). He has a big Honda running the thing now.

Thanks Tyboo Mike. Looks pretty close to the model we came up with. Looks like it's mounted further back that I was thinking, but maybe you need to work the other side of the unit with the motor on there.

Been snowed in here Cry, but will get back to Wheeler on the 16th. Will get pictures of the mighty "Denebola" Star for the album then.

Tyboo Mike,

Yeah the storm was a bummer except being off work for a few days Teeth. back to the grind again now. The down time was good for sittin' here in the pub having allz youz guyz helping me outfit the "Denebola" Star . I'll have the new seats, crabbing davit and safety ladder to install next weekend; along with taking those Photo you been doggin' me on Dog Dog Dog.

I think this thread has run It's course but It would be great, Mike, if you started a new one about rod holders. I've been looking at the 14 bazillion on the market and am still not sure. I want something that doesn't clutter the work space that your always bumping in to and want removable so that I'm not always hookin' the crab pot and line on it. The flush mounts' don't seem to be adjustable enough. Cry Beer Cry Such a picky brat. Hellllp.

Run its course? Never! It does seem to have served its pupose for you, though. I moved the topic to the Cockpit and Accessories section of the library, where it will stay as a reference. The Fishing forum was a good place for it, but when we start with the tall tales come spring, it would get buried in the BS for sure! Lots of good info here, so we'll hang on to it. Thanks for starting it.

Now then, about those fish pole holders.....
