All the upgrades and boat work is finally done (see the fishing to Cruising transition thread for details http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=23975 ) and we leave this Saturday (6/25) for Prince Rupert. The plan is to spend 15 days exploring the West side of Prince of Wales Island.
Due to the short amount of time available we will ferry from Prince Rupert to Ketchikan and launch at Knudson Cove. Plan is to round the Southern end of POW and make our way to Craig by July 5th . Will meet up with a third member of the crew in Craig on the 5th for three days of fishing, return the crew member to Craig on July 8th and start making way back to Knudson cove.
Itinerary is somewhat open as to anchorages and route. So much to see in that area that we may go up and back around the Sothern end of POW but still open to doing a loop and heading North when we depart from Craig. Do have a couple of objectives, one is to visit Hydaburg and if weather permits Bob’s bay on the West side of Dall island.
Will attempt to send updates as the opportunity arises.

Hi Steve, Harvey from Laurelwood here. You have a great trip. Stay safe. I'm on the road north same time you are, only I will be on the Vancouver Island side and not as far up as you. (Think Hope Island and God's Pocket.) Enjoy your trip and good luck in the "Catching".
Harvey

Sounds like a great fishing/cruising trip. Take lots of pics and am also interested in the details of the ferry trip regarding reservations and cost.
I am planning a trip north in the next couple of years. _________________ Patrick and Kim Walker

Left the house at 06:30 and made it to the halfway point Williams lake around 10:30 last night. 600 miles no problems other than the Seattle area traffic. Beautiful drive wish mostly blue sky's and a spectacular sunset. Greeted by another pretty day today and will be on the road shortly.

Been without internet until a couple days ago so first chance I be had to update.
Launched last Wednesday at Knutson cove and headed South around 1:00 PM. Dixon entrance turned pretty snotty with steep 3 footers just prior to rounding the South end of Prince of Wales. Seemed like we were sticking the bow into every third set of waves were glad to get into mini bay for the night. Very picturesque spot and protected from the SW wind stirring up Dixon. Thursday we ventured back out reasonably early to a still sloppy Dixon for a 16 mile run to hunters bay. Not much fun again but Hunters bay is a beautiful location with otters and eagles.
Will post more this evening, fishing right now about 10 miles from Craig with enough action to keep us entertained and hard to keep the posting going.

Fishing has quieted down, so have some time again. Really enjoyed hunters bay, some shore exploring opportunities with the remains of an old canning and mining operation. There is also a large pier that is under construction but no idea what for. We had the place to ourselves and did a lot of time in the inflatable.
Downside of hunters bay was the lack of protection from the SE wind that came up, made for a restless night at anchor but did not cause problems.
Boat has been performing well with a few minor issues. Considering the amount of upgrades and other work done just prior to the trip there was some apprehension.
Next stop Mabel bay.
Later

Back at home now with some time to recap the trip. Pretty amazing adventure and lots to cover.
Will get the pictures upload first then do a trip log of anchorages, learning experiences and equipment review.
