This C-Brat family is a great bunch! They missed your smiling faces at the gathering. A nice "warm, fuzzy" start to the morning.
Wishing Susan a fast recovery.

Thanks so much Greg, Cindie, and Aven for looking after us in Friday Harbor, we had a blast.
We are still enjoying the southern hospitality. After FH we spent a night at Cypress Island. From there we went to Anacortes, then on to La Connor, at present we are in Coupeville. Today we are heading for the Deception Pass area, most likely Cornet Bay. At the weekend we may do one more stop in the San Juans before heading North to the Gulf Islands and on to Comox.
It was great seeing old friends and making some new ones. We look forward to many more gatherings.

The c-brats are an exceptional group of people that I am blessesd to have in our lives. I really can't wait to see you all this summer boating so I can say thank you in person

Another great Friday Harbor gathering in the books. Thank you Greg and Cindie for all the hard work you put in to make the event so successful. Caryn and I had a great time seeing old friends and meeting new ones.
On to Powell River and Bellingham!! _________________ Peter & Caryn

At Friday Harbor last weekend, somebody was talking to Harvey about selling their Garhauer davit they no longer need. I need one, so if you've one to sell in the Puget Sound area or Portland, Oregon, please let me know!
Thanks!

A super big thanks to Aven, Cindy and Greg for another great CBGT.
Worlds biggest CBGT. Great fun with good people about neat boats. Hard to beat that combo.
Really fun to see everyone, old friends and meet and make new ones.
I think this is the first time we have had 5 TomCats, (4 of the 255;s and one of the 24’s) and there were 4 16’s there, which is the most I remember at one time.
And we had good representation of non- boating C-Brats too. Good to see all of you there and sorry we didn’t have more face time. Just know it was great to see each one, get hugs, and share quick stories.
Crossing Juan de Fuca on the way over was a boat ride, (2 – 4ft) due to the late leaving from Discovery Bay and a kayak support detail lasting until late morning. They got the quite early waters I usually cross on. The return, in company with Ticket, went east from FH through Lopez Pass, past James Is and across Rosario Strait then down the west side of Whidby in surprisingly calm water, considering the reported conditions on the mid-Strait of Juan. The return was a Monday trip, and Monday night was at Mystery Bay, for a quiet rest and allowing the Juan de Fuca to settle some before an early morning trip around Point Wilson and back to Sequim Bay.
On Sunday night, Sea Gypsy, and Sea Spray and I worked on the C-BRATS Group MMSI number process. Getting it entered and then practicing using it.
Official C-BRATS Group MMSI # 036697831 just in case you are looking.
As I left the dock Monday morning I got Tickets VHF set up for the group call too and Steve, Brooks and I were able to use it until we lost VHF coverage, about 6 miles out through the islands.
Just after I left for the gathering I got a call from Bill “DaNag” and confirmed that that MMSI number will be the official group call for the C-BRATS. More on that in the “Communicating on the Water – MMSI” thread.
It was a great time, much too short, and not enough fish and chips, but just enough to keep the interest up for nest year.
Thanks again to all who came and participated, to the Ari crew for their excellent work and to those who weren’t able to be there, you were missed, and you missed out.
Harvey

I just finished reading thru the "FH" Gathering thread. As has always been the case, as far back as I can remember - thanks now to Greg, Cindy, & Aven on Aurelia and formerly thanks to Barry & Patty on the former C-Cakes - it sounds like it was a wonderful time and a great opportunity to spend the weekend w/ so many people sharing a common interest.
Tanya and I regrettably missed this year's gathering due to the recent passing of Tanya's mom at 104 y/o. We were both in Texas for the funeral which was on Friday, 5/20. Tanya had been in Texas for the last 5 weeks taking care of her mother and also assisting her brother who - although only 68 y/o - is dealing w/ both Parkinson's and diabetes. Though loosing one's mom is of course a traumatic event it was a bit of a relief to see her suffering finally end since the human body is not really designed to exceed the century mark.
Hopefully we will have an opportunity to see many of you out on the water this summer. We will definitely plan to hit the Bellingham Gathering in August but dearly missed seeing many folks who's great company make attending such Gatherings one of the more enjoyable things we look forward to in life.
Take care all and stay safe out on the water.

Mahalo to Greg, Cindy (and Aven) for all the organization etc. We had a fun, but quick, trip. We only visited with 1/4 of the people we thought we would, but with the late start, the shrimping and rain on Saturday night...us working stiffs get up early and go to bed early as a result.
Good as always to see Ruth & Joe; seems Ruth and I are "cousins". Always enjoyable to visit with Barry & Patti and Roger & Janet. Some of your favorite people. We ended up home Sunday with a ton of shrimp and ran into Brett and Dion (sp?) while the pots soaked. We ended up heading back to Bellingham at the same time.
Hopefully, one year we can bring out two older g-kids to enjoy the weekend. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

After a week of cruising the San Juans and Whidbey Island area following the FH gathering we are now back in Friday Harbor. Had a great adventure but sure looking forward to getting back to Canada and warmer weather, lol.
Should be home by Tuesday and will let you good folks know what we have been up to.
I did update myself regarding the Powell River gathering. There seems to be a little concern about crossing the Georgia Strait! If you have crossed Rosario Strait and Haro Strait, then Georgia Strait is no different. Doesn't take long to cross, just take the usual precautions and listen to the marine weather forecast.

Martin,
The "warm weather" is just starting. By next weekend we are looking into the 80's ..... again.
We just cooled off for the Friday harbor weekend so our friends from the north would be able to feel at home.

Roger,
Nice job on the video. (If someone missed it go back to the post by rogerbum on the previous page > p-10< and if you don't have Face Book, click on the play triangle in the video pix anyway and it will play.
(some times if you only have face block, you have to be creative to get past the gates.)
Thanks for posting that Roger, and you did a nice job of walking the crowded dock without a mishap.)

Sorry to have missed a great gathering, we had a couple issues one my passport renewal didn't make it in time and my aunt went into hospital on the 18th with stage 4 colon cancer. We decided to stay local as she is not expected to come out of hospital. Instead we cruised the Gulf Islands all our favorite places Pirates Cove, Princess Cove on Wallace, Ganges on the Victoria Long weekend!!!!! Yikes busy lotta fun, first time to Saturna tied at the fuel dock/gov't dock very quiet, thru the canal between the Penders, Cow Bay and Genoa Bay and back to Pirates then thru False Narrows to Nanaimo.
The only real wind we saw was 25 knots and 3 ft chop up from Cow Bay to Pirates Cove. Passed a Selene 53 and Chris Craft 38 that headed for dubious shelter in Clam Bay while wee Kerri On just dialed in 11 knots and bow trimmed down and cruised. Tossed some spray but no worries
Very nice circuit of the Island. We stayed 3 days in Cow Bay and took the local bus to Duncan to visit my aunt, my mom and sister flew in to visit also and do some end of life prep with my aunt. Sad and freeing at the same time. Makes one appreciate time on the water. Next up in a few weeks we tow inland to Okanogan lake and Shuswap and then over to Upper/Lower Arrow and Kootenay lakes
See you next year at FH
Carolyn and George
Oh yeah we officially were married May 8!!!!!! Living on little boats is a good relationship tester, ours works great! |
