So I never did order the factory deck plates for the Zoe B, and now am considering putting in a wood deck/grating. I do remember seeing a wood deck on a c-dory in the past, if anyone knows the post or can direct me to the pictures I would appreciate it.
Thanks. _________________ Robert

SUBSCRIBED! I am doing a faux teak flooring in my 19. I took measurements and also had some rough measurements from Greg (Aurelia).
It's gonna be a bear of a DIY project but I'm gonna do it myself. I'm gonna leave my electronics mods and more involved engine maintenance to my mechanic (I'll do oils and filters) so I told myself I'd tackle the boat cleaning, detailing, waxing and wood flooring....LOL. And believe me; My new boat is gonna need A LOT of detailing. I'm anticipating a full day of work or maybe more. Just the exterior may take me a full day, I've never waxed a boat before.
Flooring: I'm going with PlasDeck/PlasTeak. They are both the same company but the "deck" is for exterior applications and "teak" is for interior. It's gonna take a lot of sanding and prep work; plus the cockpit and helm floor is concave so that will add it's own unique difficulties. I'm NOT gonna lay down any flooring in the cuddy or in the square area near the fuel tanks. Just the cockpit, aisle and helm area.
There are lots of other faux teak companies but this brand kept coming up and had good reviews on the East Coast. I'd suggest you do your own research and see what you find.
There are some good C Brats threads about it....To your question about "pics from other Brats", check this out. This is C Brats porn IMHO! LOL! Love this guys boat... This was the inspiration for my boat.

Love what they did to Tinker Toy.
I think i am going with real wood as i want to eliminate the pitch in the deck and create a bilge. I do a lot of spearfishing and crabbing from the boat so it would be good for the cockpit to drain, or at least to not be standing in water.
I don't mind as much during the summer, but when I wear shoes during the winter it always creates mud. |

Well, the PlasDeck will add about a 1/4 or so of thickness. I'm not sure how much added thickness you'll need to make a flat floor......BUT since you're a fisherman/crabber then I'd strongly suggest that you do your due diligence before adding real wood.. I can't imagine real wood holding up better than faux teak in a salt water fishing environment.
This is an educated guess, BUT I think that "Tinker Toy" does more cruising than fishing. Lol. Just a guess. Who knows?! Maybe he's actually an avid fisherman and can shut me up! |

I think pulling the deck flooring out to wash out the fish slime, blood and guts is far too much hassle just to have a flat spot to stand & keep your blue suede shoes dry. I just bought rubber boots. But then I don't have standing water in the boat |

Tinker Toy is beautifull!! Don't know how I missed it! The floorboards are nice, a nice job on every thing. I may go for floor boards this year and get rid of dri-dek. _________________ Michael

Looks very nice! I believe that Teak costs an arm and a leg in today's world. Is the cockpit going to be teak also? _________________ Bob Austin

Cockpit will be teak also. Was thinking about using something more cost effective but then talked myself out of it.
Ipe was an early consideration, but i really wanted the teak. Lots of pros and cons between the two. |

The general consideration for quality decking materials are from best to suitable:
teak - ipe - itauba - merbau - garapa - cumaru - iroko - massaranduba.
I had to do some repairs to gratings after our North Atlantic Crossing, and could not get Teak (which was the original in my boat), and had to use iroko. In Europe it was sold by the "Cubic Meter", rather than the Board Foot. I got several cubic meters, and then had to have it band sawed into the size of pieces I needed.
You are wise to go with teak. I used to be able to get "shorts" (generally averaged 1" x 8" x 4 to 5 feet) of teak for about $1 a board foot....today it is $30 plus a board foot. |

Dry fit of final cockpit deck plate. Next mortise and tenon each piece, dry fit again, glue up. Stringers are next.
Cabin deck plate--waiting for the other 2 so I can figure out the stringers.

Construction on the floorboards is complete, just need to fit the stringers. The cockpit section requires a bit of elevation at the center to make it level. Still trying to decide how I want to do the cabin--step down, slope down, or same level as the cockpit.
The problem with being the same level as the cockpit is I will loose a bit of headroom in the cabin. Going to test it with the step down and see if it causes a problem.
Has anyone seen a 19 with floorboards? Would seem like you would lose a bit of cabin headroom.

|
|
On our recently acquired 2008 19 angler, I noticed quite a bit of oil/dirt/grime under the three floor pieces. I lifted them out, scrubbed panels and sub deck with detergent, then reinstalled. I guess I got lucky, because I was amazed at the sturdiness, finish and build quality of them. I would put the total weight at 70 pounds, so they are not light.
I have never had any water in 6 months use, as the bilge pump keeps almost all water out. (less than i inch in the transom area. The hydraulics (for the tabs) and the washdown and bilge pumps seem to be really well placed, in the space between the two fuel tanks.
One note, both the hydraulic steering system and the trim reservoir were very low on fluid, and topping them up made a huge difference. I used OMC hydraulic fluid (In the 10 ounce tube, which I keep on board) to top them off. It meets all the listed specs, and at $8, was pretty easy to get. _________________ Pressure busts pipes. |
