|
|
I have a 20 gal tank that was disassembled by the previous owner for cleaning. The sending unit leaks around the joint when I fill it full. I tried removing it and using Permatex to seal it up, but it still leaks (the Permatex did slow it down some). Any suggestions on how to repair it?
Thanks,
Bob |

Bob: Sorry, I can't help you with your problem (I'm sure another C Brat will do that shortly!)
It's good to see another Mass. C Dory owner on here! I launch frequently in Buzzards Bay during the warmer months (Bourne/Onset area). Last season I was contemplating heading further west in the water towards your neck of the woods. Now that I have more fuel range I'll definitely do it this year, plus Martha's Vineyard.
Good luck with you fuel leak issue. |

Mine did that too. They never leaked much, more like an occasional seep, but I finally just replaced the tanks as I don't want gas leaking on the boat. |

I have the same problem, where can I source new ethanol proof gaskets or gasket sealer?
What if I buy the whole sender, is the gasket ethanol-proof?
Thanks

Thanks for the info Brent. I just ordered one from Amazon. I'm sure the old one will be toast after I pry it out of the Permatex. I have a suspicion that one or more of the screw hole may be stripped. I'll try to get the tank out this week...

I replaced the Moeller fuel sending units on my tanks a couple years ago and had the same problem with leaking. Even though the holes in the gasket appear to be evenly spaced, they are not. The gasket will only fit properly in one position. Then be careful not to over torque. There should not be any need for sealant. Good luck, Ken |
