I thought I was very smart, but now, not so much.
I have a single motorized wiper in front of my helm. It's the older style, one speed, stainless housing, you know the one.
I have it installed so that the motor rotates a bit as the wiper hits the end of the windshield. This has worked well, and keeps my windshield pretty clear. But yesterday, while out in snow, and really needing the wiper, the + wire broke off at the motor, and hit the housing and shot sparks all over, and all of my electronics went dark (I was pretty much blind at this point, the motor kept going, fortunately). It was blowing hard and the snow was sticking to the boat.
So, I changed some fuses and everything came back on, and I got back to work.
I had another boat out with me, so it wasn't so bad, but it illustrated to me that there was probably a better way to have auto wipers that could also be manually turned if necessary.
Anyone know of such a thing, or BETTER, have such a thing installed on your CDory?
Thanks! |

I think I should clarify one point that I didn't do so well explaining:
The way my wiper motor is installed, I can easily turn the motor housing by hand, causign the stuck wiper to clear the windshield. This is nice and I'd like to be able to have an electric wiper that I can also manually operate. I just need something that isn't taking the strain out on the electrical connections. |

mount a manual wiper on the center window for times like these?
Properly mount / replace existing motor, or extend the wires & continue the odd wiper operation??? |
