|
|
I've decided to "bite the bullet" and put a cantilever cockpit cover on my CD-25 with a camper back addition. We had one on our CD-22 "Out2C" and loved it. Marine Metals in Williston Florida did a great job on the 22 and will also be fabricating the one for the 25. The cockpit area is quite different on the 25.
Has anyone else with a 25 ever had one built? If so any photos would be of help. If not.....Troy the fabricator will just have to do what he does best. I have photos of my 22 project in the C-Otter album.
In any case I will post photos when it gets done. Starting in 2 weeks and should be done by Christmas. Should be a nice gift for my wife.....after all she did get the C-Otter for her birthday this year!

We have one on our CD22 and love it (like you had on your CD22).
We meet a gentlemen and his wife in Ketchikan (they were from SC or NC) with a CD25 with the same cantilevered cockpit cover as we had. In fact, he said that he had it modeled after ours (someone else had it done before us). He also had it done at the same place as we did.
I'll try and find the name of the boat - just don't remember at this point. _________________ 2008 CD22 Twin 50hp

I'm pretty sure this is the c-brat that had the cantilevered bimini on a CD25- his photo album is empty but maybe he'll e-mail you a photo.

Pretty sure he had his done at Blue Coral Towers in Florida. He stated that he drove the boat down there and they made the frame and some other custom additions for him.
Looked just as good on the CD25 as the CD22. Won't own one without it.
Good luck. |

Robert
I've sent Larry a PM and trust that he will get back to me. We thought that we would wait a bit to get one but........we sure do miss the one we had on the 22!
Thanks! |

The first one I know of was Roger [flrockytop] He did his 22 footer in Pensacola and I think was the trendsetter !
It does make a very fish able boat with the camperback option still do able .
It was done at Blue Coral Towers in Pensacola, Fl.
The Williston guys are great as well .

Thanks Marc and Robert
I sent Larry a PM and did not get a reply.....but still would like a photo of one on a 25. In any case I will be dropping the C-Otter off at Marine Metals in Williston Florida on November 30th to have one fabricated with a camper back. I've seen the ones that Blue Coral makes and they are also well made.
Marine Metals also has a custom canvas shop and does fiberglass work so I can have everything done at one time. Do not want to have the boat down for any longer than I can help it. In the 6 months we have had the C-Otter we have put on well over 100 hours.
Once again does anyone have a photo of a 25 with a cantilever cover?

Hello Tom,
I had a cantilevered top on my Cape Cruiser 23 modeled after Roger's. Mine was made at Blue Coral in Pensacola - fine work.
Note that the C-dory 22 and the Cape Cruiser/Venture 23 are NOT self-bailing cockpits like the C25. This means that, with the deck several inches higher, your cantilevered top will need to have considerable 'upslope' from the aft pilothouse roof where it is attached. This isn't a huge deal, just something to figure out so you have 'enough' head room.
I REALLY liked mine, by the way. I did not make a camper back for it. If I did it over, I'd make a hardtop out of plywood/fiberglass composite - but that's me. I enjoy glass projects like that.
Please post pics when you get it done.

Hi Dave
You hit the nail on the head. The different height needed on the 25. I plan to go to 78 inches above the cockpit floor. Should work out but it would be nice to know what height was used on the one Blue Coral made for Larrys 25 and to see how it looks.
Thanks Tom |

We had a cantilevered top made for our tomcat 24 but have since sold that boat. Our current tomcat 255 has a bimini / camper. We would prefer the cantilevered top on this boat as well.
If we find a buyer for our camper (currently for sale in the forums), we would probably put those funds toward having something made. It is in my opinion a better solution for fishermen than the bimini top whose rails tend to get in the way. |

Our Cantilever Cockpit Cover is coming along nicely. We were driving near Williston today and decided to visit our boat at Marine Metals and look at progress. The cover is done and the camper back is well underway. Should be done by Christmas Eve. Just thought I would post a photo taken today of the mounted frame. A couple more in the C-Otter ablum.

Here's what the C-Otter looks like with the new cantilever cockpit cover and camper back. I posted a few other photos in the album and will post more after Christmas. We like it!
Merry Christmas Tom

Tom, That does look nice. I am curious about the weight of the cantilever frame work. Do you know what the total is, with and without the canvas?
I understand the advantage of the cantilever design for fishing. Do you think, because of the design, that the weight is carried farther forward, thus a lower increase on the aft weight?
Merry Christmas,
Harvey

Dave...the headroom in the cockpit is about 6'4". Tall enough for me at 5' 11". It could be taller if one wanted but then it would not fit in my aircraft hanger.
I had more headroom on my 22 with the cantilever cover on it. But of course the 25 has the fuel tank below the floor in the cockpit.
The cover on the Cape Cruiser you had also looks GREAT!
Harvey...really don't know what it weighs. I'll ask Troy at Marine Metals for an estimate when I go back in mid January for some new screens. I don't know if the design helps with aft weight or not. I don't feel that the C-Otter is stern heavy.
Happy New Year! Tom |
