Greetings. We are planning a trip to Sitka Alaska during the summer of 2015; towing the CD 25 from South Carolina to Prince Rupert and then boating to Sitka. If you have any recommendations for fishing guides (salmon) in Sitka, we would appreciate your insights. We have 4 grandkids coming the last of July and early August with high hopes of "catching" more than "fishing". We expect to charter with the grandkids rather than "catching" from the CD 25. Thanks for you recommendations. Larry and Christine Hayden

It's been a several years since I last went with the family, but I've used Gary Bernhardt twice up there - he's amongst the best. If he's still in the business, I'd pick him without hesitation. Google his name along with Sitka charter, you should be able to track him down.

He's not one of the big charter outfits, which I prefer. 4-6 people at a time, and he's a fishing fanatic - rarely comes back without limiting the boat. We limited every day with him, and that was NOT the norm with other boats the years we went. He provides absolutely top-notch equipment as well - no need to bring anything of your own.

Pics from our last two trips, including the nephew's 53 pound hog:

Larhayden,

Sitka is on my to do list. One of the best guides around is Derek Floyd. He guides up in Sitka in the summer and down in the San Juans the other parts of the year. He's a very well known and successful fisherman who knows what he's doing. He's who I want to use when I get up there.

Great pics Bill. That's exactly why Sitka is on my bucket list.

Late comment, but I live in Sitka and a 53 pound king is a big fish. That fish would have won our local salmon derby most of the last 10 years.

Yup, probably correct.

The fish/picture was from late August of 2006. Per our guide Gary, it was the 2nd largest he was aware of to that point in the season.
