Has anybody heard if Garmin is going to come out with a way to connect a 2013 Honda BF90D to a NMEA 2000 backbone ?

I am upgrading my electronics to Garmin GPSMAP 1040xs and was hoping to get more engine info but found out the Honda 75 & 90 do not connect to the NMEA 2000 backbone.

Thank You

Bill Kelleher

This is true.

Honda motors are great but this is an enigma.

I have twin 2014 Honda BF90s with digital speedo and tachs. The fuel
consumption data has never worked and the digital instruments are now
"discontinued" by Honda Marine without a replacement. No explanation from
Honda or dealer.

I do have an NMEA 2000 backbone for my Garmin electronics which does work
but has no interface with the Honda engines.

My read: Small guys don't count.

My rationale: I really don't a tinker's #@!*&#!!.

Aye.

Thanks Foggy, I am glad I didn't spend the $1000 on the digital gauges.

I know this doesn't answer the original question, but maybe you can use a ScanGauge to display engine parameters. Since the BF90D is based on the engine in the Fit (according to Honda PR) maybe it has an OBD2 port on the ECM somewhere.

It wouldn't put it on the Garmin but it might be sufficient. Depends on what you want to do with it.

I'll have to look at the service manual when I get a chance.

In keeping with KISS, I'm sticking with what is.

Never had
* Fuel Integration Meter (TTL)
* Fuel Economy Meter (ECO)
* Fuel Flow Meter (FLOW)
So I don't miss them.

However (along with 'but' are great nullifiers of the previously stated), seeing the
cluster #@*%#!! of wires behind the helm bulkhead, one would think I'd be wired
to "state of the art".

The speedo does have a working bar graph fuel level meter with a toggle to read
port, starboard or port & starboard fuel levels. Guess I should be happy for that.

Aye.

I saw several references to a Honda BF90D NMEA 2000 interface. Here is a document published by Lowrance that talks about it.

http://www.lowrance.com/Global/Lowrance/Documents/NMEA/NMEA%202000_%20Engine%20Interface%20Essential%20Guide_3401.pdf

I also saw references to Honda NMEA 2000 gauges. It would seem to be plug and play with the hardest part extending the NMEA2000 network to the motor.

Tom

Thank's Tom, here is why I think my 90 will not work as it is not listed in the paragraph below which I copied from the Honda web site.

NMEA 2000® Signal Supply Cable

The cable supplies the information signals from the onboard engine computer to the NMEA cable connection in the boat.

It seems odd that they would list almost all of engines in the BF series except the 75/90.

The Lowrance brochure in the above link says "Honda Marine 40+" and gives a table of the data available. It implies to me that any Honda engine 40hp and above can be interfaced.

Maybe the Honda digital instruments are speaking NMEA 2000 (might be OBDII or CanBus).

You might look at Honda part 32185-ZY6-000 WIRE, INDICATOR (Honda Code 7634926).

Note: I have no idea if this will actually work.
