For sale is a very rare, restored 1984 27' C-Dory longhouse cruiser/fishing boat with a Volvo turbocharged inboard diesel engine mated to a Volvo Duo-prop stern drive. This is the only diesel-powered C-Dory for sale at present, and one of the (very) few ever made. The boat has extremely low hours (312 on the original engine clock at present) and shows it, as it is overall in very good condition. Outstanding fuel economy and reliability. Asking price is $35,000 USD.

This boat is 98% of the way through a systematic, comprehensive restoration. There are a few small jobs to be completed as the weather turns nicer….I will get to them when my time allows this spring, or the new owner can complete them if they are ready to buy.

History: Boat was custom ordered through C-Dory in Kent, WA by original owner in 1983 and immediately outfitted with a full hydraulic downrigger system and set up as a coastal fishing boat. It was used for several short seasons off the southern Californian coast before being laid up on the hard due to owner’s health issues. Boat sat for many years in the inland dry desert air, not being taken out but only having the engine started from time to time. Boat was purchased this past year by current owner, moved back to the Puget Sound area and restored--and is now for sale.

Layout: V-berth forward, with marine head under port side cushion. Storage under v-berth and starboard side cushion. Main cabin is next, with large table that converts to double bed to port, inside steering station to starboard, and small galley behind steering. Good storage under all seats and in drawers. Full “Alaskan bulkhead” and closable door at rear of main cabin. On the back deck there are 2 very large fish/storage holds in the floor immediately behind the bulkhead door. Fuel tank is under the floor behind the fish boxes, and finally the engine compartment/bilge/hydraulic pump area is in the very rear of boat.

Hull: High quality balsa-cored sandwich construction….no “2 by 4” stringers or cheap plywood anywhere in this boat! Hull and deck in overall very good condition for age. No signs of any groundings, damage, blisters, delamination, transom cracks or other structural issues. Bottom is clean and smooth, and has 2 factory-installed external longitudinal ribs to stiffen this longer-than-normal C-dory hull. New stainless steel thru-hulls installed for head inlet and outlet. Some small dings and spider cracks in the gel coat here and there, but overall glass is very good condition. Gel-coat has been completely wet-sanded, buffed and waxed back to great condition. Green trim accents. Hull measure 27’ long by 8’ wide.

Cabin: C-Dory made 3 versions of this boat: a “short” a “long” and an “extra long” house...this is the medium-sized “long house” model. Big enough for some living comforts , but not too large to compromise the massive rear deck space. Cabin in good condition overall. Old sealant between cabin and deckhouse was removed, cleaned out, and replaced with 3M 5200. Some small dings and spider cracks in the gel coat here and there, but overall glass is very good condition. Windows all original and in good condition. Nice radar arch on cabin top.

Rear deck: Water-shedding, arced balsa-cored deck was been repainted with grey KIWI-GRIP non-skid paint. This paint is long lasting and very easy to repair…simply repaint. Deck is very large (compared to a C-dory 22) and very strong…no signs of any degradation.

Engine (Volvo AQAD30-A): Original 1984 4-cylinder turbocharged 110 H.P. motor. Engine has been fully reworked: new gaskets, seals, oils, belts, filters, cables, breather, etc. to bring it into good operating condition. Original 311 hours on the clock. Engine starts easily and runs fine, with no sign of overheating, leaks or other issues. All engine panel lights and all gauges work fine. Bilge below engine is very clean…no signs of oil, water or coolant leaks….dry and sound.

Sterndrive: (Volvo 280 DP): Drive reconditioned with new oil, bellows, clamps, grease, shaft-lube, water inlet fitting and pipe, shift cable and gaskets. Old oil was clean with no signs of metal shavings or water intrusion. Steering helmet is tight with very little lateral play. Extra set of OEM duo-props (2) in excellent condition included in sale.

Fuel system: Original leaking aluminum fuel tank removed from boat, repaired (re-welded), and also fully encapsulated in epoxy/3 layers of 10-ounce fiberglass cloth as an extra preventative measure. Will outlast boat at this point. 2 new fuel senders and gauge at helm, new supply and return hoses, new grounding wires. New Racor 10 micron filter. 100 gallon total capacity in tank (2 50 gallon halves).

Steering: New Teleflex hydraulic helm pump installed at main inside steering station. New Teleflex stern drive steering cylinder installed. System has zero leaks or issues and works perfectly. Outside (bulkhead) steering station left out as new owner may want to convert boat back to “cruiser” with no second steering station...but that station can be easily be put back in as the hydraulic lines and fittings are still in the boat and are ready to hook up.

Bulkhead: Old worn-out plywood bulkhead/door completely removed and replaced with brand new UV stabilized “Starboard” composite (plastic) material. New hinges and new Perko keyed lock on door.

Glass: Original windows all in good condition, no cracks or leaks. Original rubber exterior molding was pulled and replaced with sealant. New smoked Plexiglas installed on the front opening deck hatch.

Exterior woodwork: All original teak parts, including handholds and rear deck rails removed and replaced with 1” “Starboard” composite plastic.

Interior woodwork: Original plywood sanded out and refinished with several coats of teak oil.

Upholstery: Original blue upholstery in older but good condition. No odor or serious stains. All upholstery removed from boat and professionally cleaned, and stored in a heated indoor location over the wetter winter months.

Galley: New pump faucet installed that draws from small water tank under cabinet into round stainless sink. New plumbing lines to tank and overboard fitting. New ORIGO electric/alcohol stove near rear door. Several drawers and a shelf for storage.

Electrical system: All wiring checked and updated where needed. 2 new DYNO batteries. New 2-way battery switch. New BLUE SEA SYSTEMS 12 volt panel installed.

Electronics: Minimal, new owner will need to install based on needs. Checked and updated where needed. Icom VHF radio works fine…new external VHF antenna with new cabling installed.

Fish holds: 2 massive (100 gallon capacity each) fish holds. Large deck lids are easy to remove and offer good access.

Head: New Jabsco marine head, Y-valve, and all new hoses installed. New Y-valve, directs waste into 15 gallon tank or overboard. Head, tank and hoses are all unused.

Hydraulic gurdy system: Well thought out system that works fine. Includes reservoir tank, main pump, stainless lines and 2 Pacific King drive motors. 2 movable gantries swing outside for fishing/stabilizing and inside for running. 2 custom boat stabilizers and 2 lead balls included. Hydraulic system can be left as is or removed to convert to cruiser.

Trailer: Dual axle Calkins trailer. Trailer appears to be rebuilt with a mix of newer and older parts…so…some of it is in excellent shape and other parts are older. Can be used as is (the driver who deliver boat up the west coast said it ran fine and straight all the way up the west coast) or refurbished. Tires near new. All lights work. Tabs current and legal.

You can see all the pics of this boat in my photo album on this site, and you can contact me by clicking on my username and sending me an email.

Both boat and trailer have clear, clean title (no bank liens) and are ready to go.
