My rule 500 auto sensing bilge pump was trying to sense frozen water and making a terrible grinding sound,so I pulled the fuse for now. I am hoping no damage done after it thaws. Any knowledge about this appreciated. 5 degrees yesterday Tux

You will probably be ok it was still running. I have burnt up more than my share of pumps by not pulling the fuse in the winter. Wink

Thanks for taking our weather down below, I needed the break!! Mr. Green

So that's why my bilge pump doesn't work in the Spring. Hmmm

If you are keeping the boat out of the water during the freezing months as I do, I pull the batteries all together and keep them warm in my garage and can top them off several times in the winter. Precludes any electronic gremlins happening while the boat is under covered storage on the trailer. If you are keeping your boat in the water, then, of course, you would want full time bilge function. I use to resist pulling the batteries, but over the years, my batteries last longer and it is also a chance to clean up the battery compartments year to year.

After calling tech support, the response was pull the fuse if u can befor freeze.the proper size fuse should blow before damaging unit. I put it back after thaw and seems fine, caught it in time I guess. Thumbs Up

In the water or on the trailer? If it is on the trailer, you can pull the plug, make sure the nose of the trailer is raised a bit, and the water will drain out. If it is in the water, and water in the cockpit is freezing, what is happening with the water the boat is in??? Shocked

I have the boat on a lift above the water, I just prefer to keep pump on if occasional rain gets in
