I do know it is the day after Christmas. I was thinking about the loop or some place else. It would be nice to have a cruise say the York River. I am open to any suggestions. We could just go north in the Chesapeake Bay. That would be a long trip by water. I Do Wish Any And All C-Brats! HAPPY NEW YEAR. Thanks Neal Mitchell

HI Neal,
Ditto to Pandy Girl's comments and great to see you on the Brats' site! When the dust settles from the holidays we gotta get serious about planning a Lower Bay cruise. Some places on my bucket list:
Cape Charles
Onancock
Reedville
Urbanna
Deltaville
Yorktown
To be continued... _________________ Lou S.

Skimmer, Those sound like some good places to go. Something different. Maybe we can get other ideas. I have been to Yorktown Marina. Nice place, good food. Have not been any further up the York River. Cape Charles can be very rough. Have to pass by THE CHEASAPEAKE BAY BRIDGE. That is the mouth of the bay. Cape Charles is on The North Shore of Virginia. There is a nice new marina that was built recently. |

Does any one have any ideas where we could go? I am all open for ideas. After York River Marina there is nothing. We could use that as a staging area and just pick a spot and go. Just do some exploring. No real rush to get any where. Just good company. How does that sound? is there any other ideas? |

York River Marina to Cape Charles and then to waterside in Norfolk. Roughly 30 miles between each stop. Might not be far enough though. All are really nice spots. I really like Cape Charles. It is like a town that time forgot |

That does sound like a really nice trip. The Bay can get very rough between Cape Charles and Waterside. If we catch it right, it can be smooth. First night York River. Fine resteraunt. They also serve breakfast. Do not know about Cape Charles. There is not much at Waterside. |

Agree with the weather on the bay. It can get quite choppy making the crossings. I always seem to run into it. I had rough weather the whole 70 miles from tangier to norfolk last summer. I like some waves though it makes the trip more fun
Cape Charles has two nice restaurants.
Just a few blocks from from Waterside is an incredible hungarian restaurant called the monastery. There are a bunch of other nice ones within walking distance too.
I have recently started staying in Portsmouth at Tidewater marina during my trips to the bay. Tidewater has one of a few floating pools in the country. There is a historic movie theatre that serves dinner and shows contemporary movies a short walk from the marina |

If you folks are interested in coming up to the mid-Chesapeake area, I am aware of 4 or 5 C-Dories in the St. Michaels/Miles River area. Not sure how to contact them, but St. Michaels is a popular summer cruising destination. There are also some nice anchorages close by.

Hi Linda M. What you have described sounds like a really great trip. Most of it is local to boot. Now we need to set up dates and ask to be put on trips and cruises. |

I have never been involved in planning one of these. How about meeting in Yorktown on 5/16, then to cape Charles on 5/17, norfolk 5/18? Could be anytime during warmer weather though.

These other ideas are tempting, but first things first. Anyone interested in doing the mini-Loop again in May? I propose this itinerary:
Fri 5/15, a.m. – Rendezvous vicinity ICW MM 0, Portsmouth/Norfolk; proceed down Southern Branch, Elizabeth R. and ICW Route 2 into Dismal Swamp Canal.
Fri 5/15, p.m. – Arrive Dismal Swamp Visitor Center; potluck picnic dinner and moor overnight there.
Sat 5/16, a.m. – Depart Dismal Swamp Visitors Center, and complete transit of Canal and down Pasquotank R.
Sat 5/16, p.m. – Arrive Lamb’s Marina, Elizabeth City; dinner ashore and moor overnight at Lamb’s.
Sun 5/17, a.m. – Depart Elizabeth City; complete transit of Pasquotank and enter North R.
Sun 5/17, p.m. – Arrive Coinjock Marina; dinner and moor overnight at marina. (Order ahead for humungous prime rib).
Mon 5/18, a.m. – Depart Coinjock; transit Currituck Sound and North Landing River into Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal.
Mon 5/18, p.m. – Arrive Southern Branch Elizabeth River; detach and proceed independently.
I don’t think anyone has yet contacted the marinas to make sure they can accommodate us, but I’m glad to do it if we have a group.
I’ll also get this added to event sign-ups to see who intends to participate.
Hope to see you in the swamp and at the “fun-filled” Potato Festival. |

Delfin is all for that lets hope we can get others to join in. Skimmer, would you take the lead on contacting Lambs Marina and Coinjock? Or would you rather have me do it. Thanks. Delfin |

I got an email from schiavolou asking for a signup list so here it is.
The cruise has been added to the Calendar and should also be listed on the front page. _________________ TyBoo Mike

OSPREY is in if Joan can walk comfortably on her left foot by then. She had her heal cut off an repositioned last Thursday and won't be able to walk on it for a while. She does have a knee scooter that she moves through the house at high speed on, but the knee cart just won't work on a boat. _________________ Steve Baum
