Ever had a handheld radio that showed a full charge until you go to transmit, and then it died off rapidly? Many newer batteries are good at holding correct voltage until the very end, well past the point that they have the amperage needed to do the job. You spent a lot of money on a PLB or EPIRB for a reason. Imagine how foolish you would feel if you went to use it, and it died out prematurely. The life you save may be your own. |

John, Thanks for that find. I have been using an HS HXT851 on my PFD for about 2 years now. It is usually my "Monitoring 16" radio. Since the other 2 are more active and where I make frequent adjustments. This will allow a 2nd personal VHF for my passenger to have on their PFD as well. Insurance, hope not, but in case.
