Seas 2 to 4 feet, wind to 15 knots, rain, temp about 50.....this is why I live here. Fired up the diesel stove and went whale watching; saw 11 Humpbacks including three resting on the surface that gave a good show. Sealions galore, seals, Bald Eagles, Marbled Murlets, and Dahl's Porpoises.
Not too many people out and about today which is good; termination dust on the mountains, leaves all turning, got home for the late football game.
This is the best part of the year; looking forward to winter and the quiet. Posted some pics from today in the album; got to get a better camera. _________________ Salmon Slayer

Yep, after making the speed run for Halcyon, I spied a pod of redfish on the way in and tied into a 30lb whopper. Released that one and got a 2 lb mangrove snapper for supper and just as I looked up from putting it in the cooler a 19 CD Angler went by (very rare to see here (Fl). I saluted, he waved and I went back to fishing. Looked like a new 19 (green trim). |

Hey, C-Dawg-E, great that the speed run stirred up that great fishing for you. We were cruising along on the Erie Canal in nice fall weather. Nice album, salmon slayer. _________________ El and Bill (former live-aboards)

Thanks all for the compliments on the album, sorry about your cold Redfox, its going around down here too.
I am not sure of the BTUs of the stove but if you crank it up it will heat you out. Its from the Washington Stove Works which is now defunct and appears to be a dealer option because I have seen a couple of boats of the same vintage with the stainless tank and heat shields (but no stove).
The stove was not working when I bought the boat but the only thing wrong with it was soot. I cleaned everything, wire brushed the whole thing, put stove black on it, then fired it up and baked it on. It is all gravity fed and uses a brass needle valve to meter the fuel into the pot.........simple like I like it.
It blew out twice when I was traveling fast but has never belched into the cabin and it will just perk along quietly giving out heat when anchored. I also have a kettle and pot that sit on top to heat coffee or stew/soup etc.
flagold: Not sure what a Mangrove Snapper is but there is nothing better than catching your own meal. I even like salmon roe and salmon sliced very thin and raw. |
