A 3 day trailer haul down and back from Mount Vernon, Washington got us more than familiar with the menu at Pilot Truck Stops, and location of overnight suitable Walmarts than we ever wanted to be. But, no real problem mechanically, ether way.
The Lake itself was just great. Reminded us of in certain ways of the east side of the Baja peninusula, but with fresh water. We also found the mechanics at Wahweap Marina quite friendly and helpul, as our Honda's needed smaller props. Would readily use their services again. Even the Park service, with their numerous pump out facilities, deserves positive comment. Launching (and pull out) were relaxed and easy with a lot of ramp room and few other boaters.
After a couple of days wandering around the lake by ourselves (for the most part without much clothing), we joined up with the C-Brats group in Oak Canyon. Everytime we go on a C-Brats outing we impressed on how friendly and helpful everyone in the group is. Just great people. Setting aside attributes of the boats themselves, it is worth buying one just to be a member of the group.
Running around the various canyons with members who had been there multiple times was particularly enjoyable. It would have taken us 3 - 4 weeks to gradually expand our exploring to include what locally experienced C-Brat members led us to in just 3 - 4 days.
Dr. Bob, Pat, Chris, thanks for organizing the event. You did well.

I have added some photos of the gathering on Saturday night and Sunday morning. There were the "hanger's on" who were there 4 days before the gathering and for almost a week after. You might say "lazy" folks, who found a piece of paradise and wanted to really enjoy it! I have several sub albums on the "Thataway" album site on both "Thisaways" adventures before the formal gathering, and some of the "hanger's on". I will also be doing a tutorial on anchoring at Powell, as well as some of the pluses and minuses we noted on this year's cruise in separate posts.
For those of you who have always wondered where the "towers" on Navajo mountain are: Here is the answer--and why just seeing the mountain is not enough!
In many instances you can see the mountain, but not be in line of site with these towers!
It was go good to see old friends and make new ones. Here is hoping that there will be many more Lake Powell gatherings for all of us! _________________ Bob Austin
