If you call, water street hotel directly [ 850.653.3700] , they likely have the few rooms blocked for us . They have gotten mighty proud of their rooms at about $350 , but there is nothing nicer or more convenient . They have slips with power and water as well .
Dolores Roux [ 850.653.9081 ]has her 2 cabins available near the Rivercrest Gathering site available . We can also get a slip or 3 at the city marina at Battery Park or Scipio Creek Marina.

I started to make reservations in Apalachicola on October the 1st and found that for the days I wanted everything was booked.
Naturally my wife reminded me that I should of made reservations in September.

I did make reservations at the Mainstay Suites in Port St. Joe (24 miles from Apalachicola). It is part of the Choice Hotels Company.
My reservations are for October 23 (Thursday) thru October 26 (Sunday). I will drive over to Apalachicola and visit and eat with all of the people.

They still have rooms available for under $100 per night. It is new and very nice. It is right next to the College and the Hospital on highway 98.

The crew of "Falcon" has slip reservations at the Water Street for 10/22 and 10/23 and will be cruising in from Dave and Marlene's in the Valparasiso, FL. area. We are looking forward to this Gulf Coast Gathering #8 and possibly a cruise east as time permits.

Now I have a purpose!!! To haul beer cross country! This will tie me back to some family history as a couple of my uncles use to haul things too back in the day.

Looking at some options as to allow me to make this event particularly if Marc is going to make Oysters happen. I remember the couple where he raked the oysters that day and they shucked for many hours that night! Great time.

I have to get my Passat & my Excursion/boat back to TN so I may just make two trips after potato harvest. Roger (SENSEI) may travel back east with me for a visit & help haul ALOYSIUS home. Not sure of his schedule as we have to work around things needed to close out the corn season for him and me completing the potato harvest.

After the harvest is over, I want to "attempt" to get a bit more salmon fishing in prior to hauling ALOYSIUS back to TN & U have a bit of trailer maintenance work to complete before towing SE.

But with Pat A's offer to get some NW Micro-Brew to the crew - I have a mission and purpose. Pat A - Will hook up to coordinate a pickup. If for what ever reason I do not make the gathering, I will just buy it from you. The gang at my place will enjoy it too.

So, timing looks like I finish potato harvest & drive Passat to TN/FL. Fly back to WA & either fish or wait till Roger can depart after closing out corn season work... then haul ALOYSIUS to TN.

We are suppose to start digging again Tuesday 7Oct and I will ask land owner a projected time for hauling completion time & have a more accurate time line and plan.

We plan on being there again this year but as of two weeks ago we won't be bringing our 22' cruiser. We were rear ended on our way to the N.C. gathering. We still don't know if it is totaled or repairable. So will come again in our 22' motor home. So might be in the market for another 22' cruiser.

Apalachicola Gulf Coast Gathering

Friday, October 17, 2014
Unfortunately Brenda and I will not be attending the GCG 10/24 1026 this year. I have a minor surgical procedure scheduled for 10/21 that will require follow up visits to the Magnolia Hospital. Of course we will launch "Falcon" when time is right and who knows where she be, the taste of salt draws her near.

Mr. Bill & Brenda do keep us posted on your tune up today. Those that have had the opportunity to travel with you two know the blessings you bring to life.

Marc & Gathering Crew: Things just got strung out too long during the potato harvest in the Skagit Valley area so I will not be able to make it. Just now wrapping up. I hate that and sure will miss the fun times and great eats.

Will follow along for pictures and updates and be there virtually.

I have looked forward to the gathering all year. I was moving the dinghy motor, stored on a saw horse, and managed to rupture a disk in my lower back. Just can't make the drive from western Louisiana. Hope you all have as much fun as last time. Carole and I will see you guys next year.
