I want to move the battery on a little boat I'm working on. The move will increase the distance from the battery to the motor to a total of about 12'. The motor is a 70 hp 2-stroke outboard. I haven't a clue how many amps the starter draws.

Can someone smart in all things electrical tell me what guage wire I should use for that distance to the starter?

Thanks bunches.

Rick,

I'm sure you can look online someplace with the engine brand name and model number to get the starting amperage draw. My guess is that you're looking at 100-200A. Then look at this chart. No math required.

Thanks, Roger. Those charts were particularly helpful.
