Jody, not coming at all? You are so close! We'll miss you!
Daydream and Constant Craving are in the Walmart parking lot in Price, UT, right now, and drawing a LOT of interest! We should be on the lake by 1 p.m. tomorrow!
Our thoughts though are with the Wrights and the 20 people who worked at the factory who are now in limbo. Just terrible news. _________________

Pat I'll be there. Just some time today we were in 1 mile of each other. Yes it is sad about the factory. _________________ Jody Kidd

We plan on leaving San Diego tomorrow (Sunday) in spite of the heat for Lake Powell but had to change our route due to #15 closure just north of Las Vegas. We will be traveling thru Phoenix and Flagstaff and plan on being on the water Monday afternoon.
Plan on being at Oak Canyon on the 19th and will probably camp in Friendship Cove on the way. Look forward to seeing and meeting you all.

Does anyone have the GPS coordinates for the Oak Canyon meetup on the 20th?

I can look them up from last year (they are on the boat; I will be there in a couple of hours) however, exact coordinates won't necessarily help. This is because the exact location varies due to water level. I have been there twice now, and the locations were completely different because of the water level variation.
But essentially, you putter on up to Oak Canyon (which will be on river left, i.e. on your right if coming from Wahweap, and on your left if coming from Bullfrog). It's marked as a wide bay on the Stan Jones map.
Both times I have been there we have been in a location such that you generally make a sweeping turn to starboard as you enter the bay. There will be a "potty island" and you go past that and make a general turn to port. At that point you should be able to see the group somewhere on a sand bar. The first year we were behind a spit to starboard; last year behind a spit to port (after generally heading into the back of the bay.
Also, by the time you are in the bay you should be able to radio others who are there. |

Scott...Oak is at mile 51 to starboard heading upstream. There is a large bay at the mouth on the canyon...the group will be in the bay somewhere...or possibly up the canyon a short way...depending on the water level and where the good beaches are. Cruise into the bay and look for a dozen or two C-dorys...can't miss it! _________________ Chris

We are on our way. We'll launch at Bullfrog in the morning 9/18 and overnight in Iceberg on the way to Oak Canyon. _________________

Following with interest (drooling) and wishing you all a great time. Be safe, and watch the weather. Considerable rain predicted over the next few days. don't know if that will reach you. Be safe and leave the bilge pumps on "auto" over night.

Much to our dismay, we bailed on the GT due to some steering issues, and then a RV problem. Discretion is the better part of valor, and I didn't want to tiller steer the boat if the steering completely crapped out.
It was great to travel with Pat and Patty, and wonderful to see Dr Bob and Marie. Great times in Iceberg Canyon! We also waved at Brent and Dixie on the east side of Loa.
Heads up!! We were stopped for inspections in both Idaho and Oregon. The folks in Idaho washed down the boat withe 140 degree water, and gave us a certificate. The guy was a retired Marine SgtMaj, and was in one of my squadrons. The Oregon inspection was VERY thorough, turning up a wasp nest, and a few cherry pits that something had stored in the unused drain for the port lazerette. That's not meant to be facetious, the guy really went over the boat. Looking at details like where the bronze bow strip meets the glass. Wash and dry your boat before you leave. We did, but it still brings a lot of scrutiny.
We are going to grab the dirt boat and head back out mid next week. I'll fix the steering when I get back.
Sorry we missed seeing every one!!!!
Safe journeys!

Ooh, nice spot! That looks like it's slightly up into the canyon? How nice to have a bit more water.
I'm still on my way there, so will probably miss the gathering - hoping there may be a few "stragglers" staying on the lake longer that I might hook up with (not that that's easy in the canyons). |

I don't know if any folks out on the lake will see this, but if you do I have a question: Is anyone planning to stay on the lake beyond the gathering? If so it might be fun to meet up (I realize that can be hard without a plan).
I'm at Powell now doing some (land) puttering on the boat. Debating whether to launch tomorrow and/or wait until after Saturday's weather (would put time to good use installing solar panels). I guess I'll check the forecast again tomorrow. When I looked today Saturday showed as rainy and must be bringing something in, because temps up until then are high 80's every day, and afterward mid-70's every day. So far it doesn't look really windy that day, but sort of hard to imagine a big shift like that without a bunch of wind (?).
Sure is nice to be here, even on land |

Here's another one.
Sunbean when I left on Tuesday they were in Forgotten and headed down the lake. There was another group down around Oak. Keep your eyes pealed and your radio on 68. |
