I'm getting close to ordering some Garmin electronics and thought I'd toss out a couple questions before proceeding:
1) I love the 1040xs. Is the tm150m a good transducer choice for a tomcat 255? The dealer was concerned that a B75m would rest on the bunk of the trailer
2)has anyone used the ipad/iphone app? I want to see the chart/sonar from the cockpit. Could I get another garmin unit to slave to the main

Thanks

We used the combo HD/downview transducer so only have experience with that but it's working well for us and is pretty sleek.

We have the 741xs unit and use the Android Helm app while under way and it works perfectly. We use the view only mode constantly and have only tested the control mode a couple of times so far. Easiest way to add a second station I can think of. Just put/mount your tablet somewhere in the cockpit and start the app. We use a large smartphone or 7inch tablet in our cockpit while fishing and it is slicker than you know what. Cindie uses her phone to view the helm unit while cruising and likes to see the captain's view along with Navionics she runs on the tablet.

We have the 1040xs. I would use the transducer which comes with it as Greg mentioned--it is good for regular bottom and down scan. You then have to decide if you want to buy the GCV 10 black box sonar which adds both SideVü and DownVü with CHIRP scanning sonar technologies to get the most out of the unit. There are multiple transducers which can be used--and only your pocket book is the limit. But I would go at least up from the 150M which is a very basic transducer and will not give all that the machine is capable of. See AirMar transducers, and read up on what works best with the 1040 xs. There are some good discussions on The Hull Truth.

I have the I pad app--but have not had a chance to use it much. I use the i pad mostly for Navionics (as Greg)--or Garmin Blue chart with Active Captain. From what I have read the app works well with the depth finder.
