Or. we could keep the cap on and glue (4200 or 5200?) pipe insulation to the cap with, of course, a stenciled C-Brat logo on it.

One more idea. Get some red can Weldwood contact cement and use that to adhere the foam. Don't use a water based contact cement. They do not work well on foam. Roughen both surfaces with 80 grit sandpaper before gluing. 4200 will slide around before curing. The contact cement is good to go within minutes, full strength in 24 hours. And, if you want to remove the foam, the glue will come off with some elbow grease and lacquer thinner. Removing cured 4200? Ugh! |
I've never tried the WELDWOOD. I will give it a look see. You are right with 4200. Great big UGH getting it off. Thanks.

And why is it if you wear a billed hat that you always hit right on that little button on the cap ,driving it into your head . That really hurts.

Most of my friends seem to be over six feet tall. I'm five foot ten and fishing the Pacific Ocean out of Brookings Oregon the sea gets a bit testy most of the time and when the bite is on you seem to forget to duck going in the cab. Or at least I do. 
I found a piece of pipe foam in the garage and gave the old WELDWOOD contact a go. By George I think it's the answer. My thanks to Astoria Dave for the suggestion. Pretty clean application and really holds on. I cut a two inch piece of pipe foam in half which gave me a flat surface to work with. Glued it to a piece of wood. That baby is flat on there let me tell you. OK, that's enough R&D for this old boy. Next trip back to Brookings I will add the foam to SEA WOLF.
At least now I'm not going to have to look for shorter friends. Again thanks Dave for the suggestion. |

WELL IT'S DONE. I really liked the idea of using weldwood cement on pipe insulation and it came out just AWESOME. I sanded down the area to give the glue a good surface to adhere to. Applied glue to both insulation and door frame. Let me tell you they are there for the long haul now.

Nice neat job on the installation, well done.
I'm a tad confused. The protection looks good as you exit the cabin, but as you enter the cabin it looks like you can still scalp yourself? Or am I missing something?

Yep, it will still get you if your not careful. No way to cover that part of the door as it would impede the door closing. Good eye.
At least my tall friends should be able to get in and out of the cab without to many headaches. I'm hoping anyway. |
