Hi all

I will be the new owner of this 1992 C-Dory 19. I am extremely excited because I fell in love with C-Dory since the day I saw the C-Dory 16 Angler at the boat launch in Everett Marina.

Nice to meet you all Smile

Just curious, this used C-Dory currently has 70hp Johnson. Would it be an issue If I upgrade to a 90-100 hp 4 stroke?

or just 70hp 4 stroke be just fine?

Thank you for feedback in advance.

Welcome aboard! Congratulations. The 70 was the engine on the vast majority of the earlier boats. If the engine is in good condition, I would run the boat for some trips as you normally would load it. Any 4 stroke is going to be significantly heavier. You might even put 100 to 150 lbs of water in the aft cockpit (in containers) to see what difference it makes.

The 70 Johnson is going to be about 250 lbs, (some earlier ones were 50 lbs lighter) and the 90 Honda 359 lbs. (Some of the other newer 4 stroke are even more weight). The question is also what is the cost of a repower going to be? (About $12,000 give or take).

Congrats on your new boat! Thumbs Up

If 70 hp is enough, there is always the Yamaha 70 4-stroke. It's only 257# I'd love to try one on my 22 Cruiser, but since it might be a bit small, and there is no "try before you by," I haven't. Would be fun to see how it handles with an engine so close to the original designed weight expectation.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the boat. I had a 19 with a 75 4 stroke Yamaha. Lots of power. If your engine is strong don't worry about more power. I ran at 12-14 knots on my 19 and about what we call a "fast cruise" on my current 22, same speed with a 90 and we're heavy. Enjoy. George

We run an older honda 75 and it works fine heavily loaded. The yamaha 70 would be our top pick right now for weight reasons but if they would just lighten and update a 90hp model similarly, that could work as well. Just prop it for the slow planing/cruise speeds. Many shops will steer you wrong on props.

Slight tangent, but that is what I keep hoping for! The new 70 is "light as a feather," and the new 115, at 377#, only weighs 8 lbs. more than my F80 (and has a nice big alternator). But the current F90 still weighs around 370#. So it stands out as "the heavy one" now. I contacted Yamaha and tried to get any "scoop" on an upcoming F90 update, but they could give me nothing Neutral

I am wondering if it is a 19 ft. I was not aware the factory built a 19 in 92. I thought the 19 was a Reynolds era boat.

Fishee, welcome to the forum and congrats on your new C-dory. If it's the one on CL, it looks like a nice one!

From the photos that were on the CL ad, you can notice subtle differences between the 1992 and current 19's (and the seller states that he was original owner and only 5 of the 19's were made back then). Based on the photos it definitely looks like a 1992 vintage to me, with similar wood trim to my 1990 angler.
