We think we'll be hitting NYC towards the end of July and then will cruise the Hudson and probably the Erie Canal. It would be great if others would join us. If you are interested, let us know!

If you get to the Hudson be sure to get on the Erie at Waterford and do the flight of five. I think it is the highest lift in the shortest distance of any canal in the world. Try it you will like it!.

The flight of seven at Ottawa on the Rideau Canal 79 ft is the highest elevation change with locks. Although, I have to admit, after 41 previous locks to arrive at the flight of seven I was locked out so to speak and there fore did not go through the flight.

Dear Rob,

Please see photos in my album for a solution to your concerns about the Canadian ruling on porta-potties. Thetford makes a potty that can be converted to a pump out as I did. I did it because I had similar concerns as you and I would also be boating in Canadian waters. Though I have the capability of a pump out potty, I have never used it as such. I get into Canadian waters occasionally and have yet to be checked. Comments from other Brats who have been boarded in Canada have indicated that it is a non issue. Having said this, I have no experience on the Canadian canal systems but have boated along the St. Lawrence.

We were up in Canada last year on the Saint John river system no one ever asked if we had a porta potty or not. Carrying a bucket is are not illegal. It's just dumping human waste indiscriminately in the waterway is the problem. I tore my tag off my mattress at home which said do not remove under the penalty of the law and no one has captured me for that yet either. We just use our P.P. for emergencies and empty it in cover of the night at an unoccupied rest room.
We are going up the Richelieu river to the Chambly canal into Canada in late Aug /September and I will take our Porta Potty along as usual. I think as long as you present a decent image they don't want to go all Taliban on the touristos. Mr. Green
