Getting heating duct to cuddy?

I am wondering what others have done when it comes to getting the heat duct from under the sink and into the cuddy of the boat? Also what creative ways people have mounted the heat vent In the cuddy? I have been looking at it for a while now and all I see is a gap where the helm and the side of the boat go together where I could pinch duct or drill out a little bit but not sure that is the best option? Any ideas?

We have an espar d2 on our boat. I drilled holes large enough for the duct to go through without pinching. Ours terminates in the helm footlocker into the companionway via a 360 degree swiveling register. From there it can be adjusted to heat the cabin or the berth or a combination of the two. I was informed that any pinching of the ducting will cause back pressure and system failure. We have had the espar on our boat since March of 09 and have had zero issues.

that looks like a clean set up. thanks for the pics. I figured i could drill a hole through the cabinet. I am trying to get it through the actual fiberglas wall and into the cuddy.ours has has two outputs so we figured one about where you have yours placed and one blowing hot air into the cuddy. but I am thinking I may just instead of drilling hole through fiberglas just install the vent to the wall down low. only concern there is that it would be close to all my wiring and not sure how hot they get.

The heated air of the espar d2 is very warm. Certainly warm enough to, at the very least, make wiring very pliable.

We use a Calframo model 807 Sirocco 180 degree reversible fan to either blow heat/ or cool air in or out of the bunk. It swings out of the way and has three speeds and has a timed shut off so after a couple hours it shuts down automatically. It also can be turned on to continuously run. It's a good piece and sells for around a 100 dollars. I would not be want to be without it. We also have an Espar D-2 and for me a bunk duct maybe a little much. Maybe put the y in the floor box near the companionway duct as recommended and drill through into the side of the bunk area and on up to the dash and do a defroster duct/vent. You could get some three inch duct and place the standard 2" inside to insulate your wiring. My 2 cents.

thanks for all the info. I have thought about using a fan to move the air around and that might be a easier and useful way to go. I am also a little concerned that if we do have a vent blowing in the sleep area it may get too warm to sleep. so maybe just put one in the helm step and one on the floor area of the kitchen and call it good.

It would be pretty cool to figure out a way to direct some air flow towards the front windows when you need a defogger.

That sounds like a good plan have you already found the dash vents you are going to use? And mind sharing where you got them from?

When I was talking with the boat show guys they told me about the y's and vents that close.had not thought about a de-fogger part of the system but that would be really nice.
